Here's a new one on me ............................
Looking at the Future Shop website, they talk about charging some kind of government recycling fee for TVs. They are the only ones I've seen mention anything about this. Do all electronics stores charge this or is Future Shop just trying to screw with us like car dealers and their "documentation fee"?

Nope, that's legit. There's a recycling fee on full computer systems, monitors, and printers too. This is an Alberta thing. The program is in it's infancy and only applies to large electronics items, but the people in charge say they will introduce more detailed fees as time moves on. Read about it hear:

http://www3.gov.ab.ca/env/waste/ewaste/faq.html

Bottom line: $30 fee for a 32" TV.

Chris.

Strange that other shops don't state this. I wonder if the rest just hide it into the cost and just don't tell people.

I believe Panasonic makes their own Plasma and LCD displays. Matsushita has a division (Display Device Company) that is dedicated to just displays. Panasonic usually makes all their own stuff. For a while there, 98% of all CD players made had a Panasonic transport in them. Panasonic is HUGE.

I bought a small monitor at Office Depot and they charged me $10 at the till. No mention of it until then.

Marco, stand by. Chris should be reporting back soon.
I'm heading over to Costco on Thursday to check this out too.
I'm very interested in this, too.

In fact, Chris, if you see this before you go, tell me what you think of the Daytek 42" plasma. It's supposed to be packed with features, too and for good price ($2300.00)
