BTW, excellent write up, Chris.

You've cemented what I've personally thought about plasma forever: it's basically a joke.

People just like it because it sounds cool. "I've got a plasma TV mannnn!!!"

I did get a couple of coupon books with the electronics coupons in them. Dave, if something goes very wrong and you can't get one, I have a copy here with your name on it.
You can do that? I thought you had to buy during those dates with the coupon.
If this is so, I may go take a look and just bring one home before June 6.

Thanks, I may take you up on this.

Thanks for the great review.

the possiblity of the "rainbow effect" scared me off.
I've not heard of this. What is it?

It's basically a weird effect where you're viewing a DLP, and you get a hazy multicoloured (almost holographic) feel to the screen. It makes you feel a bit dizzy, and just distorts the picture.

I mostly noticed it in heavy nature scenes, with a lot of green.

[QUOTE=Woodson,Jun 2 2005, 01:53 PM]Ha ha, yeah $10 grand for a TV. That's why I'm getting a rear projection. I need the larger size for my room. Brightness won't be a problem because it will be a fairly dark room (unlike the lighting at Costco) and it's a home theatre set-up, so no worries about off-axis viewing.

Did you play with the settings at all in the store?

BTW, when you saw the boxes they come in, do you think one would fit in the S2000 front seat (top down)?

Also, looking at the inputs, there doesn't seem to be very many of them for various things like DVDs, VCR, cable box, PVR recorder, etc. There looks like only 1 set on the side and on the back, they all look like computer type connections and a pair of audio outputs.

The daytek has the following:

# 1 X Composite A/V Input - You would use this for your VCR
# 1 X S-Video - Use this for your VCR / cable box if it has it, better quality than composite
# 2 X Component Video Input (Y, Pb, Pr) - Use these for your DVD player, cable box (if it offers this type of connection)
# 1 X DVI - The best picture quality (aside from HDMI), use this if your DVD player or set-top box is HD.
# 1 X PC (15 Pin D-Sub) - use this to connect to your computer

Not a ton of video connectors, but its reasonable. A lot (all) of good quality home theatre receivers have tons of audio/video connectors as well, with monitor out (meaning, you connect everything to your receiver, and then send one single cable to your tv for all your components).

The really good quality receivers (Denon) will have component/ DVI / HDMI inputs/outputs as well, giving you a ton of options for hooking up components to the TV.

Thanks Dylan. It's just from the picture Chris put up that there weren't as many as you just listed. I'm just concerned there won't be enough inputs to connect up all my "stuff".
I do have an HD digital cable PVR box, another PVR, a VCR/DVD combo unit and a couple of Nintendo systems (not real critical for these). Of course, I'd also like to plug my computer into it as well.
