Default Rock chips on new paint

Hey guys, well my Laguna blue S just got a full respray because it got keyed. It was 4 weeks ago and after commuting on the interstate, I picked up 2 rock chips right on the nose of the front bumper. They are through the clear coat but a light blue color is still showing through (basecoat)? My question is: are the rock chips due to the uncured paint? Or do you think it is an issue with the paint the shop used? Is this just bad luck? Would you guys recommend picking up a touch up paint and clear coat sealer? Or is my paint too soft due to something at the shop.

I want your thoughts before I talk to the painter,
Daniel

Get a clear bra, rock chips happen..

The rock chips happen from a rock moving at X-mph and hitting your car traveling at Y-mph. It had nothing to do with the paint being uncured.

3 rock chips in like 100 miles? That seems a bit odd considering i didn't have any from the first 20,000 miles....

When I complained about my rock chips someone once told me "That's because you drive with your nose up everyone's ass."

Yea it's not impossible, do you think the paint rock chipped itself or something??

no i wasn't implying that at all. i just don't remember getting hit by anything and was wondering if this paint was softer or something, like tiny little sand pieces chipped it like this.

IDK it just seems strange that there are this many deep chips this fast.

You probably won't hear rocks hit your front bumper, but just try to not follow anyone too closely and watch out for loose gravel in the road.. And get a clear bra if you want your paint job to last a while..

Agree! Look there are always little rocks/pebbles & some debris carry hard pointed edges etc. Even with the clear bra on the front of my car I have 3-4 areas where I've accumulated impact with a rock or debris that left a small chip in the paint (pen point sized) even under the clear bra. Keep in mind those 3-4 chips were over a 3 year span. So they don't happen to show up as much compared to a front with no clear bra. Once a piece of tire was kicked up from the car in front of me and although the paint was preserved the clear bra was messed up. I had to cut small areas where the bra was peeled back and lifted from the impact.

I would get a clear bra and 98% of your problems will disappear. Its totally worth it IMO. If I didn't have it on the front god knows what my gpw bumper would look like.

Note: If you do choose the clear bra route go ahead and do the hood & fenders yourself. Then pay someone to do the bumper.

Im finally getting my car back this friday after getting a full re-spray among other things! I decided to get the clear bra on the bumper and lip...

Tyson, how hard was it to install yourself on the hood/fenders? Where did you get the laminate?
