Aftermarket GPS systems
My wife had a Jag X-Type with the touchscreen Alpine Nav system as OEM. I loved it and went out and got a Touchscreen/Voice recognition Pioneer for my 96 Isuzu Trooper.
The we traded in the X-Type for an RX-8, also with Nav, but uses the joystick.
I have also borrowed the Garmin Street Pilot so have some time with that too, here

Excellent post and information ashmason
Just to clarify ..The Alpine DVD NAV system is a standalone box and will not play movies DVD's. You STILL need a DVD player.
The Pioneer new touch screen unit is all in one Nav/DVD, but it is a fold out and will need to be custom fabricated into the S dash

Oop's yep... it seems like the only option for the S is to fab something into the Dash. The fold out screen will not work.
Further clarification. My Pioneer unit is actually two units. The head unit includes the DVD player and flip out screen, the GPS unit is installed below it and wired in.
You can actually buy just the GPS box and source your own screen. But then yes, you need a seperate player for DVD's, CD's etc.
I know there is a head unit out there that does navigation that fits in the standard stereo slot, but you only get directions and not the map. I love the map, you can see where to go if you want to sneak around a traffic jam or other obstruction.
