As of today, Soundgate (www.soundgate.com ) plans an S2000 interface, but has some other projects ahead of it.

As of today, I know of no single DIN Alpine head units that are sold by Alpine U.S.A. that have the jack for the KCE-865B EXCEPT FOR the IVA-C800 and similar video/audio heads. The IVA-C800 does not work in the S2000 because the screen hits the gear shift when it slides out.

If you have to have a hard-wired solution to maintaining the dash controls you can do any of the following: buy a European Alpine head that takes the KCE-865B but lose tuning on the AM band(different frequency steps in Europe and USA, or buy a one and a half DIN Alpine unit and cut up the dash to install it or buy an IVA-C800 and do a shaner-like mid dash install.

I gave up.

I bought the Alpine CDA-7876 and used the PAC SWI-3 and I'm completely happy with it.

Here is an idea. Get the schematic from the EU models where it does have a 3.5mm connector(or open a EU one up and take pictures and note). Solder in a female connector(guarantee there will be a spot for it in the US models) and give it a shot the with EU adaptor. An EE told me the protocol will have a 99% chance of being the same with the two models. I think this will be the quickest method. Soundgate is now saying no sooner then 6 months.
If this does work. I know a company that will do it for minimum charge.
I do not have time to the investigating but will help any way I can.

I absolutely agree that it would be 99% likely to work. Shaner already proved that the protocols are the same for the KCE-865B and the IVA-C800.

I just haven't had the interest in opening my Alpine CDA-7876 until after the warranty lapses.

Barry:I really want this to work. I don't like the idea of those infared adaptors. First things first. We need someone in Europe with say, a 7876 to open up and take some hi-res photos and post them. Our best bet would be to find someone who knows a repair facility in EU that has one that is already ruined for other reasons. Do you know anyone that might have a connection like that??

I bet you can do it just by opening up an Alpine head and inspecting the board for spots to attach the leads.

Why don't you call Alpine and see if they will supply you with a schematic. Their number is 1-800-257-4631.

Shaner? Any ideas?

I think this is a worthy cause to spend some time on research. I'd rather have a hard wired dash control than an IR too. I hope our friends from EU can step up and give us some photos of the innards of a Euro Alpine H/U.

You know, I just installed a CDA-7977 for a friend... If I had remembered I would have opened it up and looked for leads/contacts/etc... Given the scope of Alpine's products, there definitely has to be carry-over on internal pieces.

I would bet a good deal of money that there are the necessary provisions inside of EVERY US-spec Alpine that has a European-counterpart equiped with the remote control socket...

The only way to find out is to (of course) get the schematics... which Alpine is not thrilled about supplying to non-authorized service facilites/individuals... or just take detailed pictures of both US + European models that don't/have the remote system...

I could open my CVA-1005 and show you the connector but that will offer no meaningful data because of its novel interior...

GREAT NEWS. I just got off the phone with an engineer from Alpine US. He told me that he is getting with a couple of head engineers to tell me how to wire in the 3.5mm adaptor into the US units. The only thing though is that it voids the warranty. I told him thats fine with me, and I'm sure a lot of other of people on here won't care just to get a hard wired solution. He should be calling me back today. I will keep you all posted. I think we should be getting ready to get some adaptors shipped from EU. I will offer a service where you send your radio and I'll install the 3.5mm jack in a clean room.

Ok. Awesome news. I just got a return call from Alpine. They did tell me it would work real simply. He's dropping the schematic in the mail to me today with the area highlighted that I connect the female jack to.(apparently two wires are in the EU model from the jack. A ground and a signal wire) I'd be willing to set someone up(being the guinea pig and all) if they send me there KCE-865B adaptor with a head unit that you know has an EU brother with a jack. I'd prefer someone in Southern California so we could put it right in there car when we are done.(plus, who would send a total stranger a 350.00 head unit) Anyone who knows anyone, let them know about this thread. We could have a hard wired solution within the week.

The only snag: The KCE-865B adapter I am using is the one I purchased from Barry... I had placed an order for an additional 865B from Paul Hawkins at Trinity Audio in England at the end of April... after waiting OVER 3 MONTHS with zero 865B s available, I cancelled my order...

In other words: I hope you can find them...
