Alpine adapter for in-dash commands
Barry,
You're welcome! More stuff is on the way...
The screen to the C800 would hit the shifter if mounted in the stock location. I know, you want it for its 'coveted' jack! Just be patient, I'm sure one of the new models will have it...

I've heard from Paul Hawkins in London that none of the European Alpine heads can be set to properly receive the USA AM band frequency spacing. We use 10 khz spacing while Europe uses 9 khz spacing. So it looks like buying a European head is out if you want to keep AM reception.
I've inspected a new Alpine CDA-7876 60 watts x four head. Like the CDA-7875, it does not have the 3.5 mm remote jack. I wonder how hard it would be to open up these radios and add the right lead. Anybody with a CDA-7875 want to look?
It is still possible that the CDA-7878 (mp3 capable) or the CDA-7977 (new tuner head without amp) will have the connector we desire.
So far, shaner has the only working application of the KCE-865B.
It seems such a waste to me. I don't understand why Alpine doesn't make dash remote input available either in their wiring harness (like the stock head does) or with the 3.5 mm stereo connector, like the European heads and the IVA-C800.
For anyone who wants an Alpine head and would be satisfied with keeping the S2000 mute and sacrificing the other S2000 dash controls, the KCE-865B will do that just fine.
I've got my MRV-T407 amp and my Metra wiring harnesses, so perhaps I'll put them in today and keep the stock head for a while. Or perhaps I'll get a CDA-7876 and lose the dash controls.
Right now, I'm on my way outside to take out the passenger seat and see if the MRV-T407 will fit there.

Luis, I looked at the CDM-7858 and it did not have the connector.
The new ones have a knock out for it, but no connector.
My local stereo shop thinks they will do it with a A-Net connection. Does that make sense?

Well, I did not end up installing the MRV-T407.
I bought an Alpine CDA-7876 and worked with the installer at my audio shop on the install.
I don't have dash controls today. I guess it is time to get the PAC controller. Although the audio shop says SoundGate will make one via the Ai-net, I doubt it. Thanks, Luis, for the info on Ai-net and all your help.

This is just an update. I now have full dash controls using the relay and PAC approach that Pinky perfected.
I made the "mute" work using a $2.50 Radio Shack "reed" relay (part# 275-233) and Radio Shack crimp-on telephone butt connectors (part #64-3073A).
I installed the PAC SWI-3 with a 3.3 kohm resistor I bought from Radio Shack for $0.49 (package of 5). At first, I couldn't get the "mode" to work, but I stuck with it and it came in.
I chose to keep the dash controls pretty much like stock. Volume up and down are the same. "Mode" changes from disc to tuner and back. "Ch" changes track in "disc" mode and seeks to the next station up the band in the "tuner" mode.
I placed the PAC unit's LED just above the IR window on the Alpine. I strung the PAC unit itself out the right side access panel (false speaker panel) in the passenger foot well and placed it in the net as close to the firewall as I can get. This lets me reprogram the PAC unit without taking out the radio.
Other threads have mentioned some "lag" using the PAC instead of direct wiring. To be honest, I don't notice any lag. I do notice that if I press two buttons one right after another then the second press is lost.
The LED is not invisible but it really isn't objectionable.
By the way, I think the only difference between the CDA-7876 and the CDA-7875 is that the CDA-7876 lets you choose the color of the lighting scheme. You can choose either Alpine green or Honda amber. The Honda amber is a perfect match for the Honda's lights; but I prefer the Alpine green. If you want to save a few dollars and you like these units (27 watts rms/channel) get the CDA-7875.
I've still got an uninstalled Alpine MRV-T407 amp. Someday I might use it for a subwoofer or to boost the power from 27 watts to 50 watts. For now, with the speakers I've chosen (Kenwood KFC xr600 concentric two ways) I'm completely satisfied.

Sheila, buy Pinky's harness. The KCE-865B does not work with the CDA-7875.
Pinky's harness will work perfectly with it. I've been using the PAC SWI-3 for a few months and that is essentially the same as Pinky's mod except you have to homebrew the harness and the relay.
You'll love the CDA-7875 by the way.
