This sounds like a good market for the Alpine products... can someone send this link to them. Maybe they'll listen.

I am sticking with Alpine too if this works out. I have been an Alpine fan ever since anyways.

Any update here?
I wrote to a couple of UK stereo dealers today to see if they could get the KCE-865B adapter and sell it to me here. I sent PM to Luis, too.

Anybody successfully order one? I don't have an Alpine head so, if I get the adapter, I'll trundle it down to my local stereo shop and see if it works.

Down here the adapter costs 19890 PTE, which converts to 90USD at today's exchange rate.

The importer is out of stock for another couple of weeks, so this would be the soonest I could get it.

According to the post above, the adapter is cheaper in the UK (72USD). So that may be a better route.

I'll re-check availability in a couple of weeks.

Can we do a 'group buy' on these? I would love one for my Alpine IVA-C800. Does this plug into the 1/8" 'headphone-type' jack in the back of my unit?

Thanks guys!

Here's my idea for a group buy.

First, we set up a group of say eleven people and buy a TEST sample. It looks like it will cost about about $100 including shipping, so we'd each be on the hook for $9.09/each.

Then, if it works, one person keeps the test sample and we all fork in enough to pay the balance (after our original $9.09/each for the test copy).

For example, say we get eleven takers and they cost us $100 for the test one and $900 for the next ten.

We all pay $9.09 first and get the test one for $100. ($9.09 * 11 = $99.99) We test it and confirm it works. Then we order the next ten and each pay $81.82 more ($81.82 * 11 = $900.02). Then we would each end up losing $9.09 if it doesn't work and paying a total of $90.91 if it does.

Just an example.

Like I said earlier, if we find a supplier and if it doesn't cost too much, someone should just buy one and then organzie a group buy and let the "adventuresome one" maybe benefit a bit from the group buy.

Luis,
The two UK shops I emailed won't help.
I'll contact Anthony too but I might end up asking to get one from you, even if it is a couple of dollars more.

Does this KCE-865B work with "a-net" Alpine radios like the CDA 7864?

I think there is a CDA 7865 in Europe which is not sold in the USA.

Barry,

According to Alpine downhere they work with any unit that is prepared to accept input from the steering wheel/dash controls. These can be either ainet (newer) or mbus (older). The low end units will not accept steeing wheel/dash controls.

Note that if you have the Honda CD changer and want to keep it, you can only do it with an Mbus unit (and you still have to swap a couple of pins).

Please browse thru the alpine-europe site for more info.

Luis,
I'm ready to buy a KCE-865B just to see. If you could get me in touch with an English speaking person willing to sell it, I'll do it.
I would charge it on AMEX or VISA or MASTERCARD and have it sent directly to me, with the understanding that even if it did not work, I would not return it.

So, if you would be so kind as to put me in touch with someone able to sell it, that would be great.

Thanks again.

I have discovered two UK companies willing to sell the KCE-865B to U.S.A. customers.

I just ordered one from :
P.T. Hawkins A.M.I. Diag.E.
Internet Sales Manager
http://www.incar-discount.co.uk
email address:Paul Hawkins:
sales@incar-discount.co.uk

I am not sure what the price or shipping cost will be. I used VISA to pay for the order.

I also got a favorable response from Tim Lovejoy at:
tim@edworthys-autoelectrics.co.uk

who is willing to sell to USA buyers.
look at http://www.edworthys-autoelectrics.co.uk and email Tim.

I don't have an Alpine head unit yet. We'll see where this experiment leads.

THANKS TO LUIS for discovering the part.
