Building a system for my S2K
Dude....im sorry.....but you are going in the wrong direction....and it seems to me that your shop and yourself is sort of the blind leading the blind. They are telling you things that they *think* will work.
Im not scolding you, im just trying to help.
First of all, you didnt get the eclipse correct? You got a TREO sub. Did it ever occur to you that they are POS subs???
Before you people start to say "Treo subs win tons of SPL competitions." If this is true (ill take your word on it) then the SQ will suck big time.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the clarion headunit. I have never in my life used an 8V headunit, and have achieved stellar sound quality. Most of the junkies here have 4V headunits and have amazing systems (John, Phil...etc)
Like Phil stated, there is no point of an 8V headunit if your amp doesnt have 8V inputs. Its a waste. Your shop is totally clueless. Stop eating what they are feeding you. You are wasting your time. I mean, do what you want, but its all wrong. Just my .02.
Sorry if you think I am harsh or something, but I do feel bad for you getting jerked, and am only trying to help you out Nate. But good luck in whatever you decide.

Tight + Bass = sealed enclosure
If you put the words tight and bass together in a sentence, you are talking about a sealed enclosure.
The KP's are made out of an entirely different material. Sound improvements are not just possible, but very likely. Adjust the crossovers. Many people complain that the Focals are too brite, I am amazed that you aren't getting enough treble.
The rear fill helps alot.
i am sorry to hear that you are struggling so, but I 'm sure you will get what you want.

I try to listen to what they are saying and "think and hope" that they are helping me, but it doesn't appear as though that's happening.
The reason they don't want me to go with an Eclipse sub is because it won't work with the current amp!!!!!
You're right, TREO may be a good SPL speaker, but it's not what I'm looking for. I want tight, clean bass, which they seem to keep saying I'm not going to get in my car because it's a convertible, blah, blah, blah.....and "everyone is using a sealed enclosure because it's easier to build."
First things first. Get it tuned. I guess there is no point in doing the Eclipse HU if the amp doesn't have 8-volt outputs. I will check to see. I don't mind the Clarion, but I prefer the ease of use, asthetics and higher voltage of the Eclipse.
I keep saying that the Focal KP's are a better speaker and will give better sound, yet, they keep saying, "No, you won't, because of the dynamics of the car. It'll be better to stick with what you've got and just adjust the crossover."
I should have gone to the other shop. JL stealthbox and JL amps are sounding much better to me these days. Not to mention that they sold the Alpine I wanted in the first place. The only reason I didn't go with them is because they wanted me to do the JL mids/highs as well. I don't think they carry MB Quart anymore, and they didn't have anything else I liked.
I also didn't think the JL stealthbox would fit right and sound as good. Now I'm thinking otherwise.
And the JL amps would have given me more power if I had done either the 500/5 or the 300/2 and 250/1 or 500/1 setup.
Dammit man!

Dude.....do me a favor...there are a few Alphasonik dealers in Florida.....take a ride...(you apparently have a bunch of free time if you keep running back and forth to this shop)
Take a look at them amps, and buy one (they are authorized).
Then get the Focal K2Ps, and the Eclipse aliminum.
Following that, call me, Ill tell you how to install everything, and youll be much happier.
Forget this shop. Tell them to take everything out, and leave the wiring.

The Treo is not a POS sub. Like JL, or other manufacturers, they have different product lines for SQ and SPL. This is why several of us familiar with Treo enqiired which sub they installed. The CSX is the SPL sub. He didn't get that. I don't think the sub is the problem here, although personally I recommended the JL or Eclipse as did several others.
I agree with you that the 4v on the headunit is not the problem at all. The only thing running a hot 8V eclipse head will do is force you to drop the gains on the amp so you don't overdrive the first stage. It will be completely wasted. That amp is likely expecting a 4V signal and you'll have to set the gains down to simulate a 4V signal.
Man, I hate to see people get jerked like this...
