Default Can I retain the dash controls?

Any tricks or tips to get the dash controls for the stereo to operate again after aftermarket head unit?

don't do the off the shelf DCI's - they are a pain in the ass to install, program and use. And they work poorly. The Modifry DCI is small - about the size of a book of matches - the off the shelf versions are about the size of 3 lighters - this makes it hard to get everything back in the dask.

If you JVC HU supports steering wheel controls, you can use the Modifry DCI with it. Set dip switch 3 to up and 4 to down.

I use the PAC piece with my Kenwood and it was easy to program and use. If you picked one up I could help you wire for wire even.

modifry DCI is the way to go, simple instructions and took about 10 mins to install.

Always check the FAQ's first. DCI's are definitely covered there if you somehow missed every other thread recommending the Modifry DCI.

Modifry's DCI is not Alpine only:
