Default Damn what the heck am i going to do now?

Guys.. i really need your help...

I'm such an idiot.

here it goes.. i bought myself an alpine cha s634.. i installed it in the secret compartment and all.... i was planning on getting the alpine cda 9855.. untill i ran across the pionner avic-d1.. it's an in dash navigation system... it's the newest model out and it is a double din that would allow me to play music while using the navigation system (i would cut the dash and get it installed). The thing is that because this unit is pioneer.. and the cd changer is alpine.. i'm not sure that i can get them to work together.. which would mean i wasted 280$ on that cd changer. Is there any way that i can get these two to work together?

I have two questions... first.. can use the modifry audio controls with this navigation unit.. just to control the sound really... cause the rest is touch screen... so i wouldn't really need it.

Second.. what exactly should i do? Should i forget about this pionner navigation unit and find something from alpine (although they don't make touch screens which makes me really angry) and go with the cda 9855...

or is there any way that i can install this navigation.. use the modifry controls and somehow get the cd changer to work ( i really want the cd changer as it's in the right place and i have one in my civic and it's simply amazing).

If i do decide to go with the pioneer.. what can i put in the location where the oem stereo is?

please let me know guys.. i'm really in a messed up situation and i don't know what to do,

Dave

I am not too fimiliar with the CD changer, but if it is the Ai-Net type connection, my guess is that it will not work with the pioneer. If you are dead set on a touchscreen, sell the Alpine changer and get a Pioneer unit.

The Modifry DCI can be used with any HU that has a remote. The DCI pretty much mimics the remote and its functions. If it came with an IR remote, or has the option for an IR remote (sensor already installed), then yes.....it will work.

Most CD changers are 1-din systems (or they appear that way). I would see if the CD changer and cartridge would fit in the old HU location.....convenient.

extremely unlikely... and yes, chances are you've wasted... at least, unless the changer came with outboard controls... (which iirc, the one you mentioned does not)

*shrug* not sure what to tell you. you've gotta decide those things for yourself. actually, i don't know a ton about DVD and Nav. i do know that Alpine has a number of touchscreen options in Nav/DVD, including one that has a type of pulsing sensory feedback from the screen.

just glancing on the Alpine site we find:
http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_i...ain=20&p_more=y
and
http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_i...ain=30&p_more=y

i'm sure there are more options, those were just the 2 i found right away... (including the "Pulse Touch" technology)

here's another touchscreen model:

none of these flip out screens, nor a double din, are going to fit into the OEM slot. and you're only going to get it anywhere near there after some major cutting.

regarding the DCI? the DCI's are built to handle 'groups' of brands. i don't know if Alpine and Pioneer are in the same 'group'.

in the end? if you REALLY want Nav, but aren't willing to cut into the dash? some sort of screen on a boom tied into your current system or a outboard NAV are just about your only options.

.....Flip ups do not work, as the combination of the low overhanging dash and the close proximity of the shifter should not allow for proper screen travel. There is one that would look good in a cut dash...i think its the Pioneer one you alluded to. It is a 2-din system that is just 1 big screen. The screen slides down to reveal CD / DVD slot. No motorization like flip-ups. Looks very JDM. Looks good. Would be VERY tempting for thieves, though. If you live in moderate crime location, I would also invest in a GOOD alarm system (possible paging system). Ragtops get broken into a LOT more than standard cars, due to ease of access.

As far as the stock slot, if you get the Pioneer nav system, and end up getting a compatible changer, you might be able to fit into the OEM slot....not sure on that one.

i don't think Alpine has any single DIN touchscreen units.

check out www.Alpine1.com and browse a bit.

most of the flip out stuff i was suggesting was going in line with your previous comment about cutting into the dash.
