Default A few unresolved install issues left

As I mentioned in another thread, I seem to be very close to being done with my first system install. I still have a few nagging issues that I need to get some feedback on before I make things worse.

ummm.... well, as much as your not going to want to hear this you really should open it back up and take a good look at everything.

A few questions:

1. How did you connect the wires? solder, crimp-on's

2. When putting it all back together did you try to get as much of the wiring out of the way as possible? thinking you might have pinched something...

Sounds odd to me...

Well, the tone is the famous alternator whine. Either the RCAs are too close to the power, or you have a bad ground....

As for the DCI, John is right. Something probably fell off when you put it in. I had the same problem....solved it by soldering them all.

All connections except for the amp remote are soddered and heatshrunked. But the harness pin came out once and that could have happened again. I think I may just get a new one and redo it.

As for the alternator whine - the only place the come to a power cable is in the trunk. I had a friend put the amp rack in place while I was putting on the door panels last night. I wonder if they are sitting to close to one another. Makes sense cause I think I would have noticed the whine before this morning. It's good to know that the whine isn't something about to blow up.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll report back with what I find.

if you've got a birds next back there, I would also cut the wires shorter. To me, it sounds like your DCI is mis-wired. Also check your ground and make sure it's good.

Would the ground issue also be related to the buzz I get out of my driver side tweeter when I turn the engine on? Right side no sound. Left a slight buzz/hum. It doesn't seem to increase in volume in direct relation to the volume of the music.

Well I changed the location of the HU ground and that seemed to help a smidge. Then I switched amp channels to what normally would be the rear channels I guess. That helped a bunch.

At this point I just get a faint high pitch note that once I turn up the music disappears. My only bitch is that when the music goes quiet I feel the tone more then hear it. It's like it's not engine noise, but more like an unclean sound signal. Not sure what my next step should be.

Well I took it to a shop yesterday. They took a look and couldn't find anything. They did tune the HU, which helped a bunch with some of my sound quality issues. Sounded great on the way home.

Drove it again last night and the engine noise was back. High pitch, but faint. Very annoying.

So what are my next options? Try a different amp? Is there some add-on I can get to help?

This is going to sound wierd but do you still have you stock battery to car body ground cable? You might need to upgrade that to compensate for the extra power in the car... just a thought.

Sounddomain has a good thread on resolving ground issues. They too suggest upgrading the battery ground cable. I'm going to fuss with the location of the crossovers as well. Perhaps they are too close to each other or the amp.
