Ground wire built into RCA?
I was planning on installing my audio system tomorrow, and as I was looking at the rca cable I notice there's a wire coming out of it. From the looks of it, it appears to be a ground wire, is this normal? I've only done a few installs in the pass and have yet to see a ground wire built into the rca cable. So would anyone know where I'm supposed to hook this cable up? Do I just attach it to some metal around the HU? Thx for any info guys.
Oh yeah, quick question, how many feet of rca cable do u guys use to run your system? I'm running a amp and will probably use all the preamp outs. The amp is going to be mounted above the tool well, so how many feet do you guys think I would need? As for speark wires from the door speakers, someone said that I needed twice the lenght of my car, is that true? thats seems a bit long for the door speakers. Once again, thx for any info you guys can give me.
If you ground the RCA's it will help "remove" any noise (EMS) that may try to enter the cabling through the jacket of the wires.
As for the length of the RCA's I would go with 12footers just to be safe and to give yourself some play. So you can hook it all up and then set the amp in place. And for the speaker wiring, you will need more then you think you would. I would say 20 feet for each side for the doors. Also using a 4 conductor cable will help you in the installation. If the speaker your purchasing have a crossover.

Oh, so its a remote wire, I guess that would make sense. Yeah, I searched for a ground in the RCA but there isn't mention of it. I wonder if I'll get engine noise using it as a remote though.
So I should mount the crossovers in the trunk? I was thinking about putting it underneath the drivers seat. Would this be a bad idea? Thx for the input tho guys, I was just about to buy 20 ft. rca cables. Which seem a bit too long.

Well I went out to buy some rca wires, only ones I can find were either 10 feet or 15 feet. The stores's price was about 20 dollars a cable, regardless of which one I get. Ended up buying it online since million buy ships to me in a day's time. Sad part is that I just can't install my system today

God, I'm just dying to my system in, but I can't do anything until the fedex guy comes to deliver my harness and wires.
So how is everyone else's audio upgrade coming along? How is the new alpine 9833? I got the kenwood x679, got it for only 200 bux out the door so I'm happy with my little excelon.
