Default Head Unit Install

Ok, I have ran across a few different responses concerning the removal of the head unit console piece (the piece with the flip-down radio door, the two vents, etc). I have a 2004 (AP2), and IT IS POSSIBLE to remove this piece without removing any other dash pieces. However, I strongly recommend a plastic dash removal tool (modifry's multi-piece kit is phenomenal). Pry from the top until you have enough to grasp, then pull the whole piece STRAIGHT out. It is also possible to reinstall the piece without removing any other dash pieces, but it is rather tricky. I would not do this if it is extremely cold (plastic will be more brittle), and have patience. It is difficult to wedge the piece in, but it will go without problems if you take your time. Center it up on the stereo opening, insert top clips slightly sooner than bottom clips, and wedge the bottom in until the clips drop down low enough to engage into their respective slots. DO NOT force it, or you will probably snap off the clips and be pissed at yourself. Hope this helps some people. This literally brings a head unit install to about 15 minutes total, assuming your harness is ready to go.

Yep, head unit installs are amazingly simple in the S.

I've never needed a dash removal tool to remove the radio door assembly. There's certainly no need to remove any other dash pieces either. See the AP2 DIY head unit thread.
