I want to keep the spare. Because as soon as I take it out I'll need it.
Below is a basic drawing of where I want to place the amps. Can someone give me dimensions of that space?
I haven't gotten my car yet and would like to jump on those xtants if they fit. I figure one four channel for the fronts and rears, and one mono for the sub.
PJK:

"None taken! I was worried about the same issues before I actually installed the first set. I was quite relieved when the fade and balance controls worked this out, at least to my non-audiophile satisfaction.
I'm lucky to have a couple audiophiles as customers who are addressing these issues better than I could ever hope to. If you could actually hear these compared to speakers mounted behind the seats, you'ld be sold...at least that they sound good, maybe literally too." Marks2002
I had the same thoughts about soundstage, and I even considered in my restless nights of "mono-ing" the rears as well. That would probably work, and the soundstage would remain up front with out any stereo weirdness in the rear. Of course the fader would play a very important role in this, and most users of the S-pods can alleviate the problem with the fader only. But this may not work for my spoiled ears. I will mention to my installer the possiblitiy of running the rears in mono. good idea!
Now I could use the headunit's amp for the rears, and I would earn some more amp space for the sub and fronts. But in convertible at speed it seems that the headrest speakers become especially important, and I may not want to starve them of any power. Any thoughts on this?
I would skip the rears and just spend the $$$ on doors and a great amp pushing them. THere honestly is NO need for rears if your doors are done right. That 1 XTANT amp will be more than enough for doors and 1 sub.
NFR,
That's a good thought. The Fronts and Sub are what matters. The rears are details.
I've already got decent infinty components, that I'd like to use in the rear as a rear fill. So take a good three channel amp, use the power for the fronts and the sub. OR A mono block for the sub and a decent two cahnnel for the fronts. Use the head unit wattage for the "mono-ed" rear fill. Sounds good.
Honestly.....If I pump up my sound, at 100mph, and top down, I can hear every last little tidbit of sound. The s2k has very little interior room for sound to fill it, so 2 speakers at 100+wrms is MOOOOOOOREEEEEEE than enough. Proportionally speaking, 300wrms in an s2k, is like 1500wrms in an S500. Get my drift?
Just worry about the fronts and the sub/amp. If you still need more sound, you can always add them later, but I highly recommend you wait up on the rears.
True, True. The s2k is a small car. But I am freakish about the wind noise, it scares me so I want to over power everything. It's an audiophile's habit. I'm used to my Van that has over 1500 watts and eats it up. And the rear fill in the s2k will only cost me the price of some spods. But yeah that's still $250. Everyone RAVES about the Spods and Honda's new stock headrest speakers.
So here's what we've got:
up front: FOCALS 165 K 6.5 components (i'll check Eclipse and Bostons)
rears: Infinity Components (I've already got 'em) "mono-ed" in Spods powered by Head Unit
Future head unit: Alpine with ipod controller (I've got wait they won't be released until this summer) bummer. Until then I'll deal with the Pioneer I've got.
Amps : Xtant, Autotek stealth, or Phoniex Gold OCTANE
(Either a powerful 3 channel amp, or a 100 watt two channel and a 300 watt mono block.)
the XTA403A is a great deal but 50 watts for my fronts and 150 for my sub just doesn't sound like enough power. Is it?
Sub: Elemental Designs e10A.22
any other suggestions?!
So far it seems good.
I need the trunk dimensions for my amp stand so I can figure out what will fit.
Yeah the buggie's RAD
I live on a beach we can drive on. The buggie is the designated beach car. It's way fun and NO Walter can't drive a stick. There's no stereo in the Buggie
Here's a pic with my dog:
I just got these shots from my car dealer in Joilet Illionois, these are the first photos I've seen of my new s2000. Whoa. I'm giddy like a schoolgirl. Oh she's nice...
