Default How do you run wires down the center console?

Well, I thought I knew what was meant by running wires down the console, but it's not working for me. I assumed that we were talking about going down either, or both, SIDES of the console, right? So, I removed the clips that hold the vinyl ('02) down, then tried to tuck a couple of 14 gauge speaker wires under the vinyl, on the driver's side. But, I couldn't get the first clip(closest to radio) to clip back in it's hole and stay there tightly, i.e., the wires were causing the vinyl to push the clip out. What am I doing wrong? I thought that I had more room to work w/ under there.

thanks,
gil

I think you want to pop 'up' the plastic console top. Both the frame and elbow rest come off. Then you will have access to the tunnel which will lead to under the glovebox. At that point you can get under the plastic behind the seats.

here is the link to Ricks instructions for installing the console cover, the beginning is how to remove the framing to get to the 'tunnel'.

if you are only wiring up speakers that is a good idea, if you are wiring an amp too don't run the power cable in the same bundle as the RCA cables or the speaker wires or you may get nasty feedback. When i wired my amp and speakers, i found it easiest to pop off the kickpanels on the driver and passenger doorsills and run power on one side and everything else on the other. Good luck

Thanks, everyone. I followed the cd changer instuctions, and ran the wires below the carpet of the center tunnel, instead of below the vinyl of my console. Also, using Monster's MicroXLN 4 channel RCA cable, instead of two 14 gauge speaker wires, made it even easier.

I love this site,
