Default Junkies...Need help....

Hey hey hey....havent started a thread in a while...so...

I had my drivers door replaced, due to the lack of skill of a certain Benz driver.

Anyway....after I got my car back...I noticed there is something up with my drivers window.....

The Autodown seems to be "active"...but not working properly...

Example one...

When you drop the top..you know how windows drop down? My pas. window drops all the way, and the drivers about 3/4" from the top and stops.

NOTE....the WINDOW DOES GO DOWN ALL THE WAY IF YOU HOLD THE BUTTON. There is nothing blocking it.

Also, I know the auto down is on....because...

1)I can hear the "click" turn off after about a sec.
2)The window starts to go down with the auto down, but stops after about 1"

However, it might not be active.

The bodyshop def. disconnected the battery, so it might need to be reset.

Anyway, help needed is...

1)How to check for autodown working....
2)If not active, how to reprogram the window....?
3)If not 1 & 2, WTF is wrong with my car?!

Thanks for the help in advance boys!

There's nothing to re-program Dave. The track might be off or something. Have you taken everything apart and double checked everything?

Nope. ITs weird.....the window goes up/down no problem if you hold the button, but not when you do the auto down click.

I guess ill have to bring it back to the shop and let them figure it out. Weird tho...on my friend's RSX, the Auto feature can be deprogrammed, and then reprogrammed.

Ill open up the door and see if I can tell anything is off....

Thanks John!

Nobody remembers this one? (Mac probably remembers, like me he's been around long enough)

This is a common, well-documented problem with the S2000 driver's window. The failure point is the window motor assembly and it's usually covered by warranty (within your mileage of course).

The motor puts out a voltage pulse that is seen by the driver's switch assembly. Once auto-down is engaged, power is continuously applied to the window as long as the pulsing is sensed. When the pulses stop (motor stalled, window at full top or bottom) the power is removed. The problem is the pulse generator in the motor fails or goes intermittent so the power doesn't stay on continuously.

Sometimes the failure is permanent and sometimes very intermittent. It may suddenly start working again but sooner or later it will fail for good. Mine quit once under warranty and a second time after the warranty ran out. The easiest fix is to buy an Auto-Loc module and install it in the driver's door. It's a simple install and it gives you auto-up too.

There were some rumors about being able to re-program the auto-down feature that several members reported as "fixing" their problem. But their problem didn't stay fixed - it was just an intermittent failure and eventually came back.

(if you note, the mighty Woodwork makes quite a few points in this thread...)

and Woodwork made a specific post on the issue as well - had to look a bit for this one, only to find it under my nose.

this is also covered under a TSB, so if under warranty you can get it fixed, otherwise, you'll have to hope for a goodwill fix.
chances are if you just had the unit replaced, it needs to be reset to work properly.

ah, and here's the TSB.

i'm on my 2nd 'upgraded' window regulator, so far this one seems to be doing very well.
