Default in-line fuse size

Been busy ordering parts for the new car left and right. Trying to figure out what sort/size of in-line fuse to buy for my D'Artagnan 5.1 Amp. Manual says 150 Amp fuse, but doesn't this seem a bit big?

Yeah well it looks like you should buy a 150amp circuit breaker. The reason is that they want to protect the (4) 30 amp fuses built into the amp itself. So I would follow those directions if you plan on loading the thing up. If your not going to run everything off of it you can back it down to a 60 amper. You need to protect the amp and the car. That fuse near the battery is more to protect the car in case of a short in the wiring, so your car doesn't burn

Okay. Thanks. Was having a hard time finding a 150 amp fuse thingie (I like throwing around those technical terms), and wasn't planning on using the rear or center channels initially, so perhaps I'll try the 100 amp fuse for now and see if it pops.

If you don't have the extra draw on the amp you should be fine but if you have the cash to get the fuse or Circuit break rated for 150amp, your better off buying it now. That way your not having to spend more money for nothing when you decide to light up the rear channels.

Here is a nice cost effective way to do what you want.

Gotcha. Went with an ANL styled inline fuse circuit breaker when I recently ordered cables from KnukKoncept. I'll be able to order those fuses cheap through PartExpress.

Thanks for the help guys.

Bear in mind the alternator only puts out 100 amps (max) so if you ever actually use 150 amps the battery will be supporting most of the load and will be dead in about 20 minutes (with the engine running). Short peaks should be OK, it 's the continuous drain that's the problem.

That's partly why I was wondering why the large fuse size in the first place.

The D'Artagnan 5.1 Amp isn't that big of a amp when compared with some of the other commonly run multi-channel amps being used by others on these boards. Is everyone else using fuses this large and therefore running into battery drain issues?
