If you want to stay with JL Audio, go with either the 300/4 or the 450/4. I have the 450/4 with a 10w6 and Polk Audio SR6500's and it friggin rocks the car...
My system:
HowS2kru, why wouldnt you use a 10w6 in the car? Both subs require .625ft3 of airspace. There is MORE than enough room for this sub, wouldnt recommend a 12w6 but the 10 is just fine.
I KNOW THAT..I WAS TALKIN BOUT ME HAVING THE 12'INCH W6..SUCKS..
I ONLY WISHED I BOUGHT A 10"
YA THE AIR SPACE IS THE SAME..BUT MONTING DEPT IS COMPELTLY DIFFERNT..
U HAVE UR SUB UP WARDS..SOO U HAVE MORE SPACE...
LETS SAY SOME OF US ACCUALLY WANT SOME KIND OF TRUCK...IN ORDER FOR US TO HAVE A W6 IN THE PROPER-AIR SPACE..WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A FALSE FLOOR..AND BRING IT UP LIKE 4 INCHES...(THATS WITH MY 12)..IT WILL BE DEFF LESS WITH A 10"
I have a false floor in my car as well, the box is fiberglass and we used a melame board to create the floor.
The box itself is .55ft3, however there is plenty of room to make the elcosure bigger, and certainly no need to "build up" the floor 4inches.
10w6 depth: 175mm
12w6 depth: 193mm
If you remove the carpet liner from the floor there is a TON of room, just over 1ft3.
As far as room, If I were to flip the sub over it would be about the same as the stock trunk being that I removed the spare tire and cover. I designed this system to be able to take a weekends worth of clothes in 2 dufflebags...
in this picture, you see the side panels, they are removable so I can fit a 26" duffle on each side of the sub. I even carried my Comptech sway bars home in the trunk.
Not to be a douchbag but if you are worried about trunk space, go buy an accord. This car wasnt built for hauling anything but ass.
my box wasnt designed by anybody on the board i had a stereo shop here in town build it for me, i had them elevate and tilt it because i didnt like the look of the box just sitting flush i wanted a 3D look, overall i have very pleased with the box, but you do loose alot of sound through the fact thats it a convertable if i had this sub in a normal car it would pound the shit out of it but in the S its a more suttle sounding subwoofer, but still sounds amazingly clean i love it.
