my sub stopped working
ok, . .here is the situation, i have a diamond M6 12D4 sub, working off a memphis 1000D amp. diamond hex s600 components up front off of a phoenix gold tantrum 600 amp. this is running from a 1.5 farad cap . and a pioneer 930 deck. i recently got tired of the small amount of engine noise due to having my RCA's running with my power wire, so i moved the RCA's and speakers lines from under the door to the center console, and left the power and remote under the carpet by the door. once i got everything back together i noticed that my sub doesnt even hit half as hard as it did before. i checked all the power connections at the battery, the cap, the amp. i checked the speaker connections in the box, and at the amp, ive checked the gain adjsutmetns and all the switches on the amp and the head unit, but still can not find anything out of the ordinary. the sub still sounds clear, jsut at about half volume. does anyone know what this could be? could it be blown or any ideas might help. ive tried to expalin as much as possible, let me know.
thanks

thats what i was thinking when i was on my way to work today, . .i had checked the RCA connection to the amp, and it was fine, but there is a chance that i could have pulled one out of the head unit, . ill look into that tonight.
thanks
also, . if that isnt it, is there a chance that maybe the RCA's got damaged somehow and only 1 of them is working? could that cause the same effect?

did you match the polarities when you connected everything back up? especially at the amp--did you pay attention when you unplugged them? sounds like maybe you swapped the + and - somwhere in the chain.
My sub sounds better with reverse polarity (between amp and sub). I found this out after I had to take out the sound system and reinstall it. I put everything back the same way and the sub did not sound as good. I gave up on it till one day I had to remove it again and accidently switched polarities when I put it back in the dark. It sounded great again. You might wanna try reversing the polarity, it's not going to hurt anything.
The difference in my case was not as much as you mentioned - "my sub doesnt even hit half as hard as it did before". It was more like it was loud but not clear hard hitting.
Also, on my PPI amp there are a couple buttons that get pushed in/out accidently sometimes. The problem is it does not say on the amp what's in and what's out. By now I remember it so when the crossover button gets pressed out, the -12DB mute button gets pressed in or the LPF/HPF get's flipped, I can figure our what's wrong right away. Try checking these things as well.
