New option for dash controls with Alpine
Just finished beta testing for PAC with their soon to be released SWI-ALP. This unit plugs into the rear of 2005 Alpine head units and interfaces into the factory control wiring. Here's my opinion:
Pros:
1. Programmable for any function you want each button to perform (example: you can program mode button to do something other than source select if you prefer)
2. Can be used with almost any type of auto (if/when you sell the S you can probably use this with your new car)
3. No IR transmitter to wire and attempt to hide
4. No IR delay
5. Cost is only $79
Cons:
1. Does not come programmed (takes less than 3 minutes)
2. Has limited functions versus DCI or DJCube

Are those the instructions? I'm definately interested in this.

wow.. so this remote is comparable to Modifry's Sony WIRED DCI remote? No delay when using the controls?
Thanks!
Thanks!
as i understand it, the delay on the IR units is not due to the wireless, but is due to the programmable nature of the controller. if the PAC hardwired unit is based on the same programmable controller, i would suspect the delay is likely to still be present.
again -- haven't touched the PAC myself, but the IR (InfraRed) transfer medium in and of itself has no delay (as evidenced by both DJQube DCI and modifry's DCI).
just food for thought.

Had PAC-SWIX module before and noticed longer delay with it than with SWI-ALP module. Have never personally used DCI or DJCube so can't compare possible delay against them, but there doesn't appear to be any delay with this unit other than a slight hesitation when adjusting volume up or down. This doesn't appear to be a delay, more like hesitation and then rapid vol up/down if holding dash control in place versus toggling momentarily. Hope this clarifies........
IMO You can't beat this unit for the $$ and ability to have no IR to mount

the DCI and DJQube solutions have no delay whatsoever... they are as instantaneous as the OEM solution.
still, if this unit has been noticably improved over the SWIX -- that is a HUGE plus, as the SWIX was intolerably slow (lagged as it were).
good news.

Definitely sounds like an improvement over the old PAC unit, and it's $11, $6.50, or $2 cheaper than the DCI, depending on your S2KI membership status.
Looks like I'll have to buy one of the new Alpines and make a DCI that plugs into the back of it. Ive been thinking about dong this for Pioneer too, so maybe I'll have something to keep me busy the next few months.

Modifry,
if you make your DCI with the Alpine plug, so I don't have to install an IR blaster....I'll support my fellow s2ki member and buy the 1st one
