Default Passport 9500ix mounting options?

my car has a pretty stiff suspension, so i am having problems with the escort supplied mounts. the RD bounces around with the windsheild suction mount and ends up unclicking off the mount. i have even tried propping it against the rear view mirror for added support but it still bounces off a couple of clicks.

i am now using the visor clip mount and that is working fine but i am not able to quickly remove the detector for security reasons. plus the visor clip holds the RD at an angle that isn't level.

i am looking for a nice windsheild mount. does anyone know of any decent mounts out there? i have tried google but most of the ones out there look like crap.

TIA.

Post up if you find an answer. I can see your problem, having just the stock suspension and seeing the same thing over some rough surfaces.

Some people don't like the suction mounts because the marks on the windshield indicate you have a detector. That can be a target for thieves.

I have a Valentine that I have clipped on the passenger visor. The angle is wrong, but I put some felt furniture pads between the mount and the trim to direct the detector at the right level.

The Valentine removes easily and leaves the visor mount in place. I used to have an Escort and I do remember that they don't do that, so I can't think of a recommendation for that issue.

I have not tried :

http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/r...6224-300-1.htm

This one looks good:

http://www.southerncarparts.com/escort-rad...ount-p-711.html
It is the one I would buy if I wanted to spend that much. Get it and convince me of it's awesomeness!

I will say that if you mess with the bend of the stock freebie it stays on better. If I have it "closed up" too much it kind of prys the detector against the glass and the cups pop loose.

If you spread it open some it stays on the windshield quite well.

thanks for the links. i have looked at both of those. the southerncarparts model still uses the escort suction mount clip thing so i am sure the detector will still vibrate enough to unclick a couple of times.

the mount guys model looks like ass to me.

i have been trying to find something similar to a camera mount. i still want to be able to remove the detector for security.

Penforhire, i see you feel my pain. the unclicking mount thing is a PITA.

Harpoon, i will try to level the visor with some rubber bumper thingys.

I use the visor clip - along with a modification of the suction cup mount.

I need to take a picture. I took the suction cups off the mount and used it to correct the angle of the pass. visor. I bent it to get the right angle and slid it between the visor and the visor clip on top of the visor. With it in this location it hits the area above the windshield and sets the visor to allow the detector to be level.

an alternative is to mount the detector low on the window, and put some
sort of pad between it and the dash to stop it from bouncing.

There is a company that makes some sick ass autodimming rearview mirrors, with optional compass/temp and optional map lights and rearvirew camera, that has some kind of attachment specifically for radar detectors, I believe its the same company that provides factory rearviews for GM and other car manufacterers that have homelink and onstar....i think they start at around $70 for just the auto dimming mirror plus more for more features, but u get a sweet mirror and a wireless radar...
