Default Problem with Alpine Amp

Hi everyone

I'm looking for some advice with the Alpine MRP-M650 I installed about 5 weeks ago.
It's powering a 10" Type-R sub - at 2 ohms, and has been working great up until yesterday.

After a 3 hour drive with the roof down at quite high volume - I'm getting no sound from the sub, even though the power light on the amp was still on.
I've disconnected it / left it to cool down overnight - but still nothing after reconnection. (4 gauge wiring - and I've checked all fuses)

I presumed it was in thermal protection mode (it was quite warm after 3 hours!) - but I thought it should restart after cooling?

Anyone else had a similar problem? Any advice much appreciated as always.

Yea...Neoarroyo had the same problem.....wound up making a fan cooling array. I'd PM him or search for the thread. It was pretty recent.

Just noticed that thread after I posted.
The thing is - mine had never cut out before - and I rarely have it on full blast for more than 30 mins or so at a time.

So I'm just looking for any advice on any ways of resetting the amp if possible.

If it has an LED, does the light come on? Could be a bad connection to ground.

I had a similar problem, but when it goes into protection mode, it would come out of it in a few seconds. I modded a fan and it solved the problem.

When yours go into protection mode, it should come out of it when it cools down, otherwise, if it was working fine before and you didn't do anything differently to your setup, I am thinking maybe the amp just got fried or the sub got blown somehow. I'd try attaching another sub/speaker to the amp to see if it is the amp or the sub first, as it should be an easy test. I don't know if you have another amp to run your fronts, but if you do, then maybe you can try attaching the sub wires to the other amp as a test also. That way, you can focus in on the problem.

Have you also checked the fuse that is under the hood near the battery along the power cable to the amp?

The ground connection is good - as I say, it's been working perfectly for 5 weeks - which makes it all the more frustrating.

The LED is working - lights up fine when the head unit turns on - so I guess it can't be the amp control wire. In line fuse has been checked too.

Unfortunately I haven't got a separate amp for the speakers - they're driven from the 9850Ri head unit.

Neoarroyo - when yours went in to protection mode - did the blue LED go out?
(it might give me a clue as to whether to try and get hold of a different sub, or different Amp to try first!)

I suppose I missed the part where you said "even though the power light on the amp was still on." Oops.

Well - I've found the problem!

Tested the amp with another sub at a local car audio shop - and it's working fine!

So of course I immediately thought the sub was blown - and took the Wlaurent enclosure out of the car to remove it for return to the supplier.

Drumroll......
One of the jumper wires on the sub inside the enclosure had come out!
