Default problems removing centre console in 04+models

Just seeing if ayone out there could help. After I replaced the headunit in my 05 S- the sliding door on the centre console no longer slid back smoothly - it sort of got stuck half way. I'm not sure if by lifting the centre console up to put the radio in I bent something.

I now have an 07 S and am about to replace the headunit on this. Anyone got any ideas where I went wrong last time - I don't want to make the same mistake this time.

cheers

search this forum (using the search at the bottom of the thread view) for "DIY AP2" and you'll come across a thread with a lot of pics of the process.

Thanks - unfortunately I followed those instructions the first time! It seems many people have had a similar problem after lifting the console.

Does you know why the door subsequently sticks and how to avoid it?

never had a problem with mine, are you sure all the clips are reattached? How long ago did you do your 05?

I did ths in my 05 in September - shortly before she died so I never really got round to fiddling with it to work properley

Maybe it was jsut bad luck lasttime - hopefully I wont have any problems this time.

Did you take the console off completely? - I left the gear knob on so just raised it high enough to slip the stereo door off. I came to the conclusion that I may have bent the console when I did this - causing the door to stick - but I never tried taking it off and reattaching, making sure all the clips were properly attached.

check the bottom clips on the radio door and be sure they are not bent, broken or missing.

^ He's talking about the center console sliding door, not the radio door.

I took it off completely because I was installing an iPod wire running to the secret compartment. If the console it flexed/bent, then it would make sense for the door not to slide smoothly.

I've had mine removed for audio installation, and I did notice that it was a little coarse when wide open, but it went away after a few open/close action.
I suggest you leave the door open when putting the console back in.
Applying force to clip it back in might squeeze the plastic mechanism, hence the door getting stuck.
Just an opinion.
Good luck
