What are you trying to IM/text one of your friends or something? You're in front of a perfectly good keyboard that doesn't use T9 text prediction. Not typing out words and forming full sentences puts anything else you post in question. I think that's what other members were trying to point out.

I have a Passport 8500 X50. The first day I bought it I was saved from a ticket in a construction zone. I was going with the flow of traffic, 70mph in a 55 zone and I had a strong KA signal pop up out of nowhere. I slowed down and changed into the right lane, half a mile up the road around a curve there was an officer with his radar gun. He got a lady driving a minivan three cars in front of me. That was at least going to be a $300 ticket, the detector basically paid for itself the first day.

I love this thing on highway trips, when you're on the open road virtually any signal that it picks up is going to be an accurate hit. In the city it's much less predictable, like other people have posted I get tons of false K band alerts from motion sensors and other motion sensing devices (hostpitals and banks).

So to sum it up, on the highway they're great and my X50 has saved me countless times. In the city, don't speed! I don't get the point of speeding in the city as the next stop light can undo all your speeding and make you late for that appointment anyways. There are all kinds of places for police to hide in the city and the false signals don't make detecting them any easier. I will agree that once you get used to how the detector responds to certain signals you'll know whether it is picking up a false positive or if it's actually picking up an active radar site (such as a speed trap).

Like other members have stated I never hit the road without my detector. If I don't have it on me I feel like I've lost a margin of safety. Once you're used to how it works you'll be able to accurately spot speed traps in the city and on the highway. Even if you're not speeding it's nice to know what's around the bend, I would highly recommend a quality detector. Bel and Escort are one in the same, the V1 is still probably the best you can buy but I've never used one so I can't comment on that.

I have a passport, but here in texas, i hear that if you're going over 110, they dont even try to chase you.

Sooo, if you don't want a speeding ticket, drive faster!

*Just hearsay, and from what I've observed 120+ they don't attempt to come after you, but helicopters suck*
