Default Review of Lucid/Modifry's S2000-Sony Wired Dash control interface

Hi everyone,

I usually don't post a lot in the forum, but I feel compelled to write this after such a positive experience with it.

For those who are interested in hooking up their Sony head units to the dash controls on the S2000, there is now a great alternative to the PAC-X infrared interface.

Installation:
I ordered Lucid/Modifry's Sony DCI last week from Lucid's web site and it promptly arrived a few days later. The actual controller is very small (about 2"x2") , just slightly larger than the s2000 wiring harness itself, so you can fit it completely in the area behind the stereo itself. It took about 2 hours for me to install everything completely, including taking out the stereo, making the s2000-sony harness connecting the wires together (I was cheap and didn't order the plug-and-play version from Lucid), testing and putting everything back. It was also very easy to hook up the Vehicle speed sensor wire( which is just under the passenger dash), especially if you use a wire tap connector (I got it from Radio shack).

User Experience:
This unit is responsive! If you thought that S2kman's Sony DCU is responsive, this one is even better. The volume buttons react instantly instead of waiting till the button is released, and you can hold the button to increase the volume quickly. At first, I thought that having to press several button combinations is very cumbersome, but the design is actually very intuitive when in used and the responsiveness allow you to change tracks, albums very quickly. In addition, you also get a lot more functionality from the buttons through button combinations than the stock design.

The vehicle speed sensitive volume is a cool addition. I used to fiddle around with the volume control everytime I get on and off the freeway and this feature definitely minimizes the need to do this. There are 3 sets of settings for volume-rate increase and I am still working to find the best setting for me. As a user, you might need to choose one with a higher rate of volume rate of increase when the top is down and a lower rate of volume increase when the top is up. The setting can be changed easily by holding a dash button when the car is started.

Negatives:
When I received the unit, the green and gray wires were accidentally swapped, but this probably only happened on my unit. (Lucid replied to me very quickly to confirm this).
If a longer vehicle speed sensor wire is provided and wire-tap connector is included, it will definitely make installation easier, but of course, it might drive the price up.

Conclusion:
Compared to several alternatives out there today to connect an aftermarket stereo to the S2000, this is definitely one of the top ones. It is relatively inexpensive, highly responsive, offers additional functionality and works flawlessly.

I'm getting ready to do mine. I'll try to take some good pictures during the process. I'll be using mine with the Sony Mp-70.
