Jim, that's a good looking setup in the pic you posted! :-) I just changed the HU for an Eclipse 8455 and the improvement in sound is phenomenal! Now, I'm waiting for the iPod adapter which should be out any moment.

Well its time to start ordering. I have made up my mind on what to go with after being trapped in doors all day (hurricane Rita).

1. Headunit - Pioneer Premier 860 MP - why i picked it, it has all the sound editing functions I need, time alignment, cross over, and auto eq and auto time alignment if I get lazy. I had it before, so if it aint broke dont fix it.

2. Amp - Alpine MRV 545, after much reading, this is the one I am going with.
They are underrated per most people and the 125 watts at 4 ohms is
more like 175 watts. I also like the digital display (see below)

3. Speakers - Infinity Kappa Perfects.

4. Sub - Alphasonik PSW 810 in custom made mdf box for tool well.

As for the mouting of the amp, here is my idea. going with a PAS2knut flat panel for the rear. GOing to mount it on the panel. And then I am going to make a cover for the panel, so basically all you will see is the silver part of the amp and the led display. See below.

First the amp and what it looks like, check out the display!

Some how I want it to look like this, time to improvise. Obviously its only going to be one. SHouldn't be hard, I figure I will just get some thin masonite, cut it to match the flat panel provided by Pas2knut, and either place some spacers underneath and use velcro tape, that way it can be removed to gain access to the amp, and also hides the wires. Can't wait. Ordering starts next week!!!!

i dont know why they underrate. all i know is that underrated amps are good for competitiors. its always better to underrate than overrate.
I think this has to do with the fac that there was no universal way to measure a "watt" in th eindustry until the they passed the CEA-2006 standard at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show.

All amps that are CEA-2006 compliant should be rated the same. That is why I will never buy an amp that is not CEA-206 compliant, because there is an obvious reason why they are not compliant.....they cant certify the advertised power output. This is why I stay away from Sony (other than the fact that they sound like crap in a blender).

The 545 is CEA-2006 compliant, as are all Alpine amps. Should push a "true" 125.

Anyone know where I can get Focal's online. Cant seem to find anywhere that has them. WEnt to sound advice today, they wanted $1000 for the Focal K2P's.

Just a tad bit too much for me, considering I got my Utopia's for $640 shipped to my door with warranty.

actually -- something to keep in mind. i read a good chunk of the CEA-2006 compiance standard (or at least it felt like a good chunk.. ), and as i recall -- i do not believe the standard says you must make exactly the advertised output, but instead states you will make that output at a minimum.

by that designation, you can still have underrated amps and probably WILL have them, since in order make sure they are making the minimum throughout a product run, they will always design them for some moderate or greater amount over rated.

just a thought...

so the Alpine should push 125 or more watts RMS

and pikka -- yes, the JL 450/4 makes more power for the fronts than it does for the rear. it's mainly designed like that to provide power to ambient rears. (at least as i understand it...)
