Default S-Pods aftermarket speaker hardware

Hey. Does anyone know if the S-Pods are still available out there? I'm trying to set up the rear speakers in the roll bar space. Any help would be appreciated.

The original S-Pods are no longer made, but there are similar brackets available on ebay and elsewhere.

I would also suggest looking into installing speakers behind the seats instead. One drawback of putting speakers in the roll hoops is that the L channel can overpower the R channel because the L channel is right behind your head. If the rear speakers are behind the seats, the sound is a bit more balanced for some. The install is cheaper for behind the seats, too, because all you're doing is cutting an existing OEM plastic panel, which can be cheaply replaced if you want to go back to stock.

There are pros and cons to both setups, so I'd look at both of them. I wouldn't do either at the expense of better front speakers though. A good 6.5" component set with good midbass is the best money you can spend to improve SQ, by far. If you're starting from scratch, I'd recommend upgrading the HU first, then the best front speakers you can afford + amp + dynamat, then subwoofer, and finally rear speakers, in that order.

Good luck!

Thanks for your very helpful reply. I will look into upgrading my front speakers before anything else. One final question if you have time: In addition to the 6.5" front component is there also a separate OEM tweeter. Juast keep those or is there an upgrade you recommend? Thanks, again.

Component speakers include a tweeter and will replace the OEM one. Coaxial speakers have a tweeter nested inside the woofer - if you get coaxial, you can just unplug the OEM tweeter and leave it in place. Most higher end speakers are component, but there are some good coaxials to be had. Some people here prefer coaxials because they move the tweeter a little farther away from your ears and they're also easier to install.

I'm very happy with my S-Pods and I know I got one of the last set that the original make had. There are very close looking options on eBay right now for only about $55, much less than the original S-Pods.

In addition to upgrading your head unit and front speakers, I suggest the footwell sub from 2Big4aS2000 on these forums. You get the subwoofer in the cabin, don't lose trunk luggage space, and there's no trunk rattle, either. A 10" sub is more than enough for the S2000 small cabin.
