The magnet will not damage the trunk unless you slide it across the trunk when trying to take it off. As far as mounting why did you put it on the trunk (unless you are using a hardtop)? The satellite signal can pierce through vinyl/cloth just not metal or glass with a metallic heat resistant covering.

Put it in the secret compartment, reception will be fine even with a hardtop. I tested the antenna everywhere on the car even under the soft top tray and it was fine.

A fm mod relay daisy chains into your antnenna input on the back of the radio. When on, it cuts out all other FM freq so you can get the best FM siganl possible that the sirius unit is sending. It helps, but not that great. Most people here are usiing aftermarket decks with direct sirius inputs anyway.

Do you actually know this from experience? I had one on the trunk of my old civic and I made sure to clean it well before putting the antenna on there. I never moved it, slid it across the paint, or messed with at all once I put it on there. When I removed it after my car got flooded and totalled, I noticed that it had scratched up the paint underneath pretty bad. DO NOT PUT YOUR ANTENNA ON YOUR TRUNK IF YOU DO NOT WANT IT SCRATCHED. I speak from experience. I have mine mounted on top of my secret compartment and it works great top up or down. I'm thinking about trying the dash next up against the windshield for more of a stealth look.

I mounted mine right behind, on top, and to the side of wind screen and tucked the wire into the groove that splits the secret compartment and the roll bar cover plastic. Although it sits on the edge where the secret compartment opens, if I need to get into it, I just slide it to the side a little. The tucked wire securely holds the antenna from sliding around and even though my plastic window is fairly scuffed up, it still has no problems with reception with the top up. Plus, I don't have to worry about vandals or someone trying to steal it from the outside of the car.

On a side note, I have the same antenna mounted on the outside roof of my Xterra and haven't had a problem with it scratching the paint.

It didn't cause major scratching, but it definitely scratched up the paint. You could clearly see the area where the antenna was when I removed it. I would never put it on the paint of a car I cared about unless I was installing it permanently and didn't care what it did to the paint.
