Ok guys heres my question. I have had a set of Fosgate component speakers sitting in my room for the past 3 years. The speaker size is 5.25 and I know the s2000 take 6.5. Can I use some sort of adapter so I can install these speakers in thr stock location? I found something like on crutchfield and want to know if anyone has tried this before. Here a link to adapter: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?

Well it was just a thought since they are really nice speakers. They retailed for 399.99 back when they came out but I may just sell them to get something else. Thanks

if one has a sub in the system, you could argue that a 5.25 is preferable to a 6.5, as the mid need not extend quite as deep, and the smaller driver could better blend with the tweeter.
i had a set of 5.25" a/d/s components in a previous car that had stock 6.5" speakers for that reason, and they sounded plenty good. the link provided went to the crutchfield homepage, but i would suggest the ones they refer to as "liftrings" as they will ensure that you have adequate depth for the speaker to not hit the window when it's down. you shouldn't have to worry about the speaker sitting too far forward, as there is a good amount of room to the interior door panel.

why would one get "horrible sound" simply by using 5.25" vs 6.5" speakers? perhaps the fosgates don't sound great (I don't have any experience with them), but you can't make such a blanket statement based just on diameter.

To the OP...an adapter ring should work and you can easily make your own as well. The critical dimention is mounting depth.
As far as SQ....put them in and see if you like it.
If you make your own mounting rings...you can always enlarge them to fit something bigger. I can;t seem to find the like for the DIY basket replacement ring...but you simply trace the OEM basket onto a 3/4 inch MDF board. Cut it out and cut a hole in the center appropriate for your speaker.
