I hear ya. The 8500 has worked great for me all Spring/Summer/Fall so far.

Actually, on the V1 and 8500 - if you just have the hardwire cable, not the smartcord, it should work - another AZ member did that. If you have the remote in the loop, no guarantees.

If you wired it from just a phone cable, it shouldn't be a problem. Power was the same on them from what I recall.

No drawing, no diagram, only took about 10 minutes to figure it out, after I made two just like the Corvette mount and realized it wouldn't work. Tried bending and everything stupid, thinking it was me..

Use your V1 visor mount for the width and you do need the rectangle hole at the end to hold the clip in place. On the other end use the screw in the mirror and the mirror button on the window as a template. The good news is that the width of the V1 mount fits almost exactly into the window button, minus a little trimming to round the end. Then you cut the hole in the end for the screw. If I recall the main piece was 4.5 to 5" long and then I guestimated what I would need for the other part and I used velcro to hold it in place since our window has a steeper angle than the C5.

You use your V1 visor mount, minus the visor clip.

Can you make me one also. Can't use visor to block sun when using V1 visor mount. Need V1 protection all the time when out in Spa.

Did you think about making those and selling them? I'm not handy with that stuff at all but I'd buy one!

I don't have an interest to make them for other people, maybe one or two for an AZ member, sorry. It's not that tough to make.

Would it be possible for you to post more detailed info, like measurements and materials and such? I'm really interested in making one of these. The suction cups drive me nuts in Florida.

It would be possible to give you my dimensions, but this is not a tough project and I riveted the parts together already. To give you the dimensions I have to pull mine apart, no thank you. I posted the photos to show it wasn't that tough, I am not a mechanical person. Take the 3 hours I did and play around with the metal, make some mistakes, get away from your computer for three hours! A perk

Cost was $35 for all of the equipment below, except the drill and I have 2/3 of the sheet metal I bought left. ALL OF THE PARTS were at Home Depot.

Here is what you need:
sheet of metal - 26 gauge - I used zinc, there is probably something better
metal cutter
smallest rivets you can find - Home Depot was 3/8"
rivet driver
strip of velcro
drill with drill bits
----
except for the drill - everything else was $35.

Once you make a couple mistakes the last one takes 10-15 minutes to make, you can figure out how long everything needs to be and do it. You probably will make one even better than mine, I suck at this, that's how simple it is to do!

What do you attach the metal bracket to? and how? Do you attach it to rearview or just the velcro or both?

I attached the bracket to the mirror mount. I cut out a hole in the bracket for the mirror mount screw. I reconnected the mirror mount after placing the bracket inside the button that is attached to the window. I used velcro to hold the mount steady since our windows are much more slanted. I wouldn't trust velcro alone.
