Has anyone hooked up an external amp to their Power Acoustik CP-71WA? I have an AP1 with only two 6.5" speakers. They are upgraded to Kickers and I'm wondering if an external amp would make a difference. I don't see any information on the power output of the Power Acoustik CP-71WA and I'm wondering if it is under powered and could use a boost. It gets loud, but the sound could be clearer. Talking to the folks at Crutchfield, I'm considering a Jensen JA2B JA Series compact 2-channel amplifier with digital signal processing — 95 watts RMS. I'm also wondering it it will fit behind the Power Acousik.
Per the manual, it's rated at 4 x 17 watts/channel. Adding an amp will definitely help with loudness and clarity. The real question is whether or not you'll actually be able to enjoy the improved fidelity with the car actually moving given how much noise there is, especially with the top down. I added the CP-71WA along with very efficient Infinity speakers in the doors and called it a day. I do wish I could combine the Power Acoustik features with the built-in amp power of a Sony DSX-GS80 (now discontinued) or Sony DSX-M80 (the marine version).
Regarding the 2 channel amp, I don't think it'll fit behind the Power Acoustik.

You might need harnesses and adapters if you want your dash controls to work. Modifry sells them or scosche and a few other brands
Just go with the Modifry plug and play harness, plugs right into the OEM harness, no need to build your harness with an adapter harness.
1. Looks so much cleaner
2. Your Mute button will work with the Modifry DCI, some other adapters, your Mute button won't work, but everything else will work.
One other thing, if you want to play videos on your Power Acoustik, and you use the Modifry plug n play harness, I don't think its wired for video playback, so you'll have to find the specific wire that needs to be grounded to enable video playback.
I was 100% sure I bought the right thing until I opened it up. This is what I have:
The harnesses have a plug on each end. The one you use in the DIY is a pigtail with only one connector. I can cut off the end I don’t need, but was unsure if that harness saves a step. Any tips or ideas on how to proceed? Is it as simple as cutting the right half off?
In your post, you mentioned steering wheel controls. Is the harness alteration just the two extra wires to make the steering controls function fully, or would there me more steps for a 2007 S2K?

Yes, the harness alteration is just relocating two unused wires to allow a connection to the SWI-RC-1. In other words, the signals go like this:
dash switches --> 2 wires --> SWI-RC-1 --> Power Acoustik.

Sorry, my bad. I definitely wasn't clear. I was 100% sure I had bought that exact Schosche harness. Walmart had it listed as a bundle with the head unit. The name was "Scosche HA028-WM1SD Wire Harness Compatible w/ Select 1986-2011 Non-Amplified Honda, Acura & Isuzu" but the part number was HA-08B, as it should be.
It looks like Scosche made a harness with two connectors, one for 80's/90's Hondas, and one for 90's/00's cars so that people wouldn't buy the wrong one. Just plug in the connector that fits, and leave the other one hanging unconnected.
