It's been a while! After selling my S2000, buying an SUV (my first automatic transmission) is already boring me to tears. I no longer look forward to driving! It's a cpo Range Rover Sport. It's luxurious, but feels like I'm driving a bus.
I'm about to buy another S2000 tomorrow. It's been seven months since I sold my 2005 and I'm coming back. Going with an AP1 this time. Anyway.. do we think this will fit in our cars and will the radio cover close over it? Slightly bigger screen and might be just as good or better than the Power Acoustik. https://www.ebay.com/itm/33584240982...saAqsOEALw_wcB
Thanks to everyone on this thread for the information on adding Apple CarPlay to the car. I initially purchased a single DIN head unit from Amazon and wrestled to get it to fit. It was a few mm bigger than the opening for the radio. I also could not get the dash controllers to work. After wasting 3 hours, I ran over to Walmart and bought the one discussed on the thread. It was a simple install and it works and fits perfectly. I even updated the firmware to load in a custom start up screen. Do not waste your time with other options, buy the one from Walmart.
Can you share this wallpaper/boot logo pls?
I just got my first s2k, and this was the first thing I went and bought from Walmart. I still need to get a modifry DCI or alternative. Subwoofer is on the to do list as well. Next thing I want to install is a Wolfbox dash cam rear view mirror. I got one as a gift this past xmas and have installed on my Pilot and I love it. Its great for those weekend rides or car meets, but for now I'll have to use my Insta360 camera to record any weekend cruising.

Hi! I shared this a while ago, now updating that I have a different S2000, and the latest SKU for this head unit is Power Acoustik CP-71WA. Works even better: NO DROPS on wireless carplay. I also added a rockford fosgate PS8" powered sub in the spare tire area (just adds a subtle bass to complement the whole system) and sounds and fits great.

Also updated the startup logo:
I like that startup logo.
I'm in dire need of getting some low end as the stock system has absolutely none. The Rockford PS8 was an option I looked at. I've researched for weeks now and I think I've decided getting anything into the cabin is my best bet over something in the trunk.
I almost never have passengers and even if I do they will likely be short so I am okay giving up a little bit of leg room over there. It looks like you can get almost any of these underseat options into the footwell without losing my space like https://www.facebook.com/groups/966841287180816/posts/1686684098529861/.
I'm also determined to use a real subwoofer than can handle a decent amount of power. Most of those hideaway top out around 125 watts or so and you pay a pretty penny for them as I assume you are paying for the compact size.
My current attempt is going to try to get something like a Kicker L7T 8 into the footwell. It only needs 2.75 of mounting depth so I think I can get away with something 4.5" or deep including the grill which is only 1.2" more than those hideaway variants. I'm taking inspiration from this which I think I can fabricate myself.
Edit: Not sure why it is saying that FB post is unavailable, it almost certain is not. Here is another look: https://imgur.com/a/Cymw9QB

Reason: link
The passenger footwell is already cramped without adding a sub there — but if you never have passengers then I guess that's a solid option. The Rockford Fosgate 8" that I have in the spare tire area sounds great, costs $389, 150 watts RMS. It's plenty punchy, and doesn't overpower the stock door speaker/tweeter setup.
My car is mint with only 16k miles and I want everything to be kept stock (can always add the spare tire back in and put the original head unit back).
I think too much bass ruins most of the music I listen to, but it's there when you want it with a compact trunk sub like I got. Either way, good luck! I'm loving this 2002 now that it's as modern as a 2025 car with backup camera, wireless carplay and a sweet sound system.
Just wanted to give back to the S2K community with a summary on how to add a Power Acoustik CP-71WA, Scosche HA08B harness ($7.50), external microphone ($5), and fully functional steering wheel controls including MUTE via a PAC SWI-RC-1 ($45 - $50). This is cheaper than using a Modifry harness ($25) and DCI ($90), but requires soldering. DO NOT use the Axxess ASWC-1 ($68) that you see in some YouTube videos because it costs more and the MUTE button won't work. Note that the CP-71WA is the same as the CP-71W. The only difference is that the WA has the latest firmware with wireless Android Auto, which you can download from Power Acoustik and update the firmware of the W version.
4/24/26 UPDATE: There is a new CP-71WAK. Functionally it's the same as the CP-71WA and CP-71W, except the "WAK" version includes a knob for volume control. Bracket instructions updated below to account for the volume knob sticking out from the face.
First step is to modify the Scosche harness that doesn't have steering wheel control wires. Since most 2000-2005 S2K's don't have rear speakers (unless you have a dealer accessory headrest speakers), you can relocate the purple and purple/black wires to the slots shown below. If you have a 2006+ S2000, you'll need a second Scosche harness to "donate" two wires/pins for the steering wheel control wires or you can use Posi-Taps to tap into the factory wires (I don't like tapping into factory wiring though).
To relocate the wires, I used a jewelers screwdriver and stabbed it into the harness until the wire and pin come loose and you can pull it out and then reinsert into the correct pin holes.
Here's the completed harness.
For the PAC SWI-RC-1, be sure to use the Kenwood settings shown below because the Power Acoustik settings DO NOT WORK.
The SWI-RC-1 comes with 2 harnesses, but you'll only solder 4 wires (red, black, white, and purple) on the harness shown below.
Solder or crimp (solder recommended) the wires as shown in the 2 photos below.
And you're done with the harness! Here's how everything will be wired up!
One tip regarding the mounting brackets from the OEM stereo to the Power Acoustik. Transfer the bracket and one screw from each side to the CP-71A or CP-71WA as shown, which will lineup the face perfectly. I did not use 2 screws on each side. I also did not use the metal sleeve that comes with the CP-71WA. 4/24/26 UDPATE: For the CP-71WAK, you'll be using a different screw hole because the volume knob sticks out a bit and can interfere with the radio cover door.
THE FINAL RESULT
