Wiring New Audio System
definitely sounds interesting.... i found the other thread later by chance, but already had posted here....
good luck on the setup. i'm surprised there is no harness for this car...
and the "premium sound" is always what causes the problems... God forbid you ever want to replace a BOSE setup...

I suspect that most people were happy with their factory "premium sound" (like I was), and didn't even give it another thought as far as "upgrading". Only now that the units are starting to fail (my HU and CD player are almost 10 years old - dated 1994, even though the car is 1995), are people needing the harness.
As far as Bose is concerned, I stay FAR away from any car that puts them in standard. For the money, they are too costly for what you really get; not to say they are bad, they are just not cost effective.

are you sure there's no way to bypass the premium sound and internal amp? i've done it a few times in other cars (some of which were BOSE) and while it was a PITA, it was do-able. it usually meant running new wires for everything (from power to speakers) and bypassing the entire factory system...
but.... hrm... then again, you're probably NOT wanting to do that...

and BOSE is definitely not cost effective... and if you look at the quality and build of their gear - it is ridiculously low grade equipment sold at high grade pricing. and the bulk of their gear uses 'tricks' and 'ear foolery' (both electronic and mechanical) to make crappy sound appear better than it is... some friends of mine are actually shocked to know that a standard BOSE system will eliminate a car from my shopping options... of course, my wife understands completely...
she's a keeper.
and as a audiophile friend once put it to me... "i'd rather listen to my 2 yr old bang a wooden spoon on a garbage can, than listen to music on a BOSE."
it just shows you what evil a marketing department can do...

gotcha!
makes sense to me, especially if you were happy w/ the original sound.
not running bundles of wire (which you would have to do) is a good enough reason as is...
and the factory amp has the crossover for the front components? that's a bit different.
