Default 220k miles. Too late for boost?

Got a MY07 with 220k on it. Have nothing done to the motor at all, not even an exhaust. My concern are the internals. Some have recommended I rebuild it, others say I am fine. What are some other high mileage owners experiencing? Any recommendations or tips for high mileage motors would be highly appreciated.

Would I invest money to boost a car with 220 on it? No way. It may be fine, but I would either see what a short block goes for, find a low mile donor engine or something like that.

Have you done a compression and leakdown test? What were the numbers? How much power are you aiming for?

You will certainly need a new clutch which is pretty easy to do if you were going through the trouble of swapping motors.

I'd drive the snot out of the existing engine, and then make my decisions when that one goes critical. It is for me about the effort. If you see the car as a long term ride, save until you have the money for a total build to do what you want. Otherwise, especially if it is your only car, you spend to boost, blow the engine and suddenly have a paperweight and not enough cash to get it back on its feet. You have also put in a lot of labor installing stuff that now needs to be stripped off and put back on again.

And I am curious if you don't mind me asking, what does an 07 with that many miles sell for?

Some people have had luck with high mileage engines, others haven't had luck with low mileage engines, it's all about how it was taken care of. Like mentioned above. Get a compression / leak down to determine the overall health of the engine. I would probably also put an electric oil pressure gauge on the car to initially determine how healthy the oil pressure is, and then to monitor after boosting if you do. Mechanical over revs on miss shifts and not checking the oil regularly and running the engine on low oil levels is what kills these engines the quickest.

I have been looking into used engines but I figure to resleeve the engine would be sufficient enough. I haven't checked compression yet, the car was very well maintained I am the second owner of the car and I've known the previous owner very well and have known the car since day 1. Never had anything other than intake, header, exhaust and tune on it. I did take a look at the top of the valves and they don't look too carboned up. Looked at tthe cylinders via boroscope and seem to be in decent shape. The oil pressure gauge seems like an insightful route.

Since we're on the topic what's the compression numbers supposed to be at?

Its never too late my friend. Make sure all the maintenance is done, compression and leak down are good and you're set man!!

Most people say 240, but I think the Helms says 226??? cant remember. I think the more important thing is that all 4 are the same or very close...220, 218, 224, 216... vs. a huge difference in one, which would obviously indicate an issue.
But liquid was correct, some high mileage have been ok, some low mileage have been bad...

I would probably replace the oil pump before boosting.

i have an 2005 with 220k ... i am the only owner and have changed the oil every 3 to 4 k with synthetic since first oil change... theres no sludge in my engine oil always looks clean...i just picked up a new kraftwerks kit .ill let you know how it goes... my mechanic (billman) says the engine can handle it...i might think differently if i did not know what a previous owner did to the car..but in my opinon boost and if it blows then worry bout the engine

The benefit of yours is you're the only owner, so you know everything about the car.

my 01 had 232k on the clock when I boosted mine. did a compression check to make sure they were good and even. installed a SOS stage 1 kit(6psi) good for another 100hp. got 237k on it now and runs great. always keep an eye on the oil level. and if you go SOS, GO with engine fed oil system. the self lube systems tend to fail easier if you do a lot of autox, trackdays, etc. great setup from SOS.
