Why not get an EMS? It works much better and can be had used and new in some situations for around 800. (Two just sold on EBAY this last week for 810 used and 860 new private party).

Some folks don't need something as extensive as an EMS. Granted, the EMS is amazing at what it does, but it doesn't necessarily suit every person's needs. The FIC, as I see it, is an immediate step below the EMS in that it doesn't give you the full functionality of a standalone, yet can provide a relatively limited amount of tuning for those who need it. Not to mention, being that this is a piggyback unit (and doesn't replace the ECU like an EMS does), OBD2 would still be functional...which is important for those of us living in states like California, and would like to pass smog (legally).

Any news or updates with this piggy, AEM has confirmed that the unit for 00-05 units is now available and functioning, I just wanna hear from someone that has it installed and working, their impressions.
