Was it your BOV? That was the first thing that came to mind since you mentioned ON/OFF like effect.

Ended up spinning bearings for some reason. 5+ quarts of oil. Not sure what happened but they spun. The knock sensor was enabeling and I guess telling the AEM to cut power..
