boost spike, oil temp, and oil pressure questions
How many of you spike in high boost when it's colder out? I'm pretty sure my spiking is due a leak in my recirc (previously the vband nut came loose) will put the car up tomorrow to inspect, but I'm wondering if the spiking is only due to the colder temps?
Oil temps - what is the limit before things start breaking?
Oil Pressure - How low can it go at idle when it's very hot and thin?
Thanks!

With 5w40 Mobile One diesel oil and Inline Pro log kit with relocation and Inline Pro 9:1 built engine I was seeing as low as 18psi at idle with sensor mounted on the oil filter housing. Kinda scared me to be honest and I'm hoping with my new rebuild and now running 10w40 Penn Racing oil by some miracle it will be higher. Stock is 35psi at idle so says the manual, and this is a newer oil pump. We have to think though relocating with all the huge extra lines prolly doesn't help the pressure. This is just my guess though.

^^I've heard this before with the IP relocation kit. I think the -10 lines they use are too large and don't keep the pressure up because they flow too much. Ultimate Racing uses -8 lines with their relocation kit and that is what I have. My oil pressure, taking it from the stock sensor area, is around 35 psi at idle with mine. Maybe try switching to -8 lines and see if that helps. I bet it would.

even though boyle's law says pressure is equal at all points in closed area, I don't think it applies in engines.
I have my pressure sender located on the IP relocation block and on very hot days at idle I see as low as ~15psi with synthetic oil. However, I still have the stock oil pressure switch installed which is supposed to turn on under 20psi or something and it never goes on. Just something to think about.
To answer the OP,
Oil temps are dangerous at probably 300F+. I only say that number because that's what BMW said with their 335's oil overheating issues. It really varries engine by engine. I do know the oil should at LEAST be 220F+ so the water mostiure boils off.

^^Factory oil pressure lights usually are set to come on at under 10 psi and most are around 5 psi if I remember correctly.

Well when I was using non-synth oil I saw my pressure drop below 10psi once at idle and the light never came on so I'm still convinced it's higher in the actual engine then it is at the relocation block.
