Centrifugal Superchargers, not enough torque?

low boost sc + 4.77s = awesome
an old used comptech non-ac and gears is cheaper than getting a whalepenis intake, jdm header, testpipe, and jdm exhaust...

While I love turbos and love the extra torque they provide there is a lot more to deal with concerning maintenance, heat and upgrades. I had a 350hp 95 dodge neon that was running 12.2's all day long at English Town and believe it was fun as hell.
The problem with the s2000 is the stock drive train does not take well to all the extra torque from a 350+ turbo setup. People end up reinforcing their diff or just purchasing pudy's diff kit or inline's kit which cost $$$. Plus you have to deal with added heat which will require you to most likely relocate items in the engine bay such as the fuse box etc.
With the supercharger heat is really not that much of an issue plus you can reach higher hp without completing redoing the car and if you are doing that you are probably better off buying a better platform to reach high hp gains for less time and money.
The whole reason I am going for a 400hp vortech setup on my s2k & not go turbo is because it allows the car to keep stock around town, less maintenance (spend more time having fun then downtime) & all I need is a stage 2 clutch since I don't plan on launching the car or driving like a lunatic on crack. Will most likely lower the vtec setting down to even out the power band which will help in when the blower kicks on.
Also I will be doing this on a stock head gasket which has been known to go up to 500 safely. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it is seems to come to mind. Just to give you idea on mods as well this is what I will have:
SOS Throttle Body – More air flow
DC Headers – less bends that stock and ceramic will help in airflow and IAT’s
63mm Berk Highflow Cat – 80% more airflow and no test pipe smell
Fujistu Legalis Exhaust – 63mm which will help is more airlow than stock & sound
SOS front mount aftercooler – Bring in more air and tame heat soak
Plus the usually stuff. My goal is 400bhp on the least amount of boost.
It really comes down to what type of goals you have and what you want from the car horsepower and drivability wise. Good luck.

I think he's looking for something with some power down low.
Still a very happy SOT kit owner. Now that I have my VTEC point fixed (my fault, had a wrong jumper position) its 200 ft lbs of torque instantly, and it easily shoves enough air to lower VTEC to 4000 rpm. Makes for a nice powerband and you can break the tires loose easily in first or second without much effort.
Around town in traffic, its a totally different beast and zips around in traffic without effort the way an NA S2000 never could. The SC whine grows on you too.
Not that SOS, Vortech, or Kraftwerks are bad kits, they just don't put out low end the way the roots does. The SOT kit is a little more than the current centerfugal kits, but if you have to add gears, then its less.

The peak power output only occurs near redline because boosts slowly builds with RPM increase. So torque isn't there until very high up in the RPM range.
I'm thinking an upgrade should help improve the weak points of a car not just pass it on with a bit more top end HP.
I guess most SC owners want more redline horse power. I think for a broad and solid HP band improvement... turbo is the only way to go.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
