Converting to E85. Am I good on fuel system?
Guys,
I'm taking the E85 plunge. I think I'll just pick up a drum of the VP Racing or whatever I can find cheapest in my area. I'm doing this for a couple reasons...namely, I want the engine to run cooler as I'm building a more serious track car now.
I'm running a Novi 1000 with a 3.0 inch pulley (disregard my sig)...it should make somewhere around 12/13psi peak. I have RC Engineering 750cc injectors and a Walbro fuel pump. I don't want to run my injectors over 90% duty cycle.
I should be good with my fuel system for ~390whp on E85, right? I can't think that I'll really need 1000cc injectors for my meager power goals but I wanted to confirm with some of my S2000 brothas.
Thanks!
Jorge

i'm actually goin' the same route! luckily i have a pump nearby
ur definitely gunna need bigger injectors. i'm gunna be runnin' the injector dynamics high impedance 1000cc injectors b/c e85 requires roughly 30% more flow to obtain the same amount of horsepower. the walbro 255 should be adequate that's wut i'm running.
105 octane here we come!!

Are you positive I'll need bigger injectors? By your estimation, 390*1.3 = 507hp on gas. Is this not possible on 750cc injectors?
I can't believe that 750cc injectors are not enough to get to 390whp on E85. Can someone with experience please confirm?

u might just need to crank up the fuel pressure a bit. all our hp calcs on inj are based on static fuel pressure near stock.
get afpr and add some if you dont meet your goals wihtout it.

Make sure you have the newer updated 750s. A lot of people have lost motors due to turning the fuel pressure up past 50psi or so. I can not remember the exact figure off hand though. They lock up at higher fuel pressures, in the closed position. Two different model numbers, SL or SH.
When I spoke to Tony at T1 he said the ID1000s with a single walbro would be good for about 450whp. People on here though have made about 500whp with a single pump and ID1000s. Each car is different so I guess you wont know untill you try.
On a side note I have a Synapse FPR if your interested.

well, u don't have to take my advice.....
but, i talked to shawn church who has plenty of "experience" as he is actually running e85 on his kraftwerk'd s2000 and he said 750cc w/ a 3.4" pulley would be borderline and that i should consider 1000cc's. he said he could probably tune my car safely w/ the 750s but that he may have to lower my redline. but, they'd be at almost 100% inj duty and like u stated anything over 90% to me is unsafe. now, i've got the 3in pulley 750s definitely won't cut it for me.
i guess u can try it w/ 750cc's, let me know how it works out for u
