Do I even need a CAI?

Default Do I even need a CAI?

Ever since installing a SC I always was slightly confused by the point of CAI on my SuperCharger. Doesn't it get compressed and heated up by the turbine anyways? It's the HeatExchanger and AfterCooler that really brings the temps back down.

If I get rid of the elbow and icebox and slap a mushroom filter on my turbine, wouldn't I get better response and wouldn't really effect my intake temps all that much?

I did experiment with different intake lengths including horns on the dyno. It shifted the dyno in the powerband depending on length. I did see some gains in the midrange as well.

I personally run a CAI intake out to the front bumper opening. Although the blower does compress and heat up the air, if your intake temps are down, the compressed air will be lower as well. Any little bit helps.

Cooler air in will yield cooler air out, even though it is heating up during compression.

Did you get better mid range with no elbow? Or with longer tube?

If my memory is correct, the shorter runner make more top end HP. Conversely, longer for bottom end.

Aaaah, tube must restrict total volume of air once SC is up there in RPMs

Probably, and also the resonances created by the tube probably helps in some areas and hurts in other areas
