you're right spec and everybody else, don't get me wrong, i think that gauges are absolutely important, but I am just trying to avoid them because it makes it SOOOOO obvious that you are FI. I was never good at arts and crafts, so i am surely not going to cut my dash up . Ricks would be the next best thing, but $1200!!! yikes.
So, lets switch up for a second, since we have all agreed that gauges are important, what should each of them read for "normal" numbers?
I.e., oil temp/pressure, water temp, etc.
If you have a great way to hide gauges, or another alternative for me, PLEASE post up
It depends on how you are driveing at a given moment for what is "normal" gauge readings. I made a thread a month or so back that had my normal gauge read out of the 4 main ones (oil temp/press,water temp, EGT) do a search for it as I'm to lazy to post the numbers again

when you use your laptop to monitor now and then, is it on while you drive? or do you hook it up, save it on memory, and then analyze it later? Also how long do you drive to get sufficient data to analyze?
I think i will leave some trust in church automotive and hope that they do a excellent job with my tuning
I'll do both. I drive around with my laptop on my lap and will do some datalogging. The big reason is that I leave my car for a month or two at a time and do continuous mods when I am home. The few times that my mod list has been somewhat static and I have driven consistently, I hardly ever bother to plug in with a laptop. I'll normally do a four or so pulls onto the interstate after getting it fired up for the first time in a month or two. 95% of the time, no changes are needed and when they are, it's usually due to bad fuel or something like that.

thanks tim, would you happen to have any screen shots of your datalogging? just want to see how it looks like
Here are a couple. Sometimes I do run a slightly different setup though. Any parameters the AEM Pro program will display can be logged. There is also internal logging, although I find it a bit cumbersome and not much more useful than normal logging.

can't say i know how to analyze it, but it looks good thanks
