The howling noise is completely normal!
mine sdoes the same thing and my old turbo setup in my civic did it much louder. welcome to FI and get use to all the added noises already guys.

on a side note, i think the greddy filter is better than the K & N some of you have mentioned.. the K&N does not have a velocity stack built in like the airinx does, which makes a definite difference. Just my opinion.
What is a velocity stack, I am using the filter from my FIPK, do you think it matters?

It must be normal on the Greddy kit only.

I had a 450whp custom turbo set up in my old teg and never had this howling noise. I know there are various additional sounds when having a turbo set up with add on's etc. Just found that the howling was uncharacteristic of your avg turbo set up.

Yep mine does too, definately more pronounced when I am accelerating slowly.
Interesting. Ever had it checked out as to what it may be caused by?

It's the funnel looking shape that the airnix has in its base. It helps air come in smoothly to the intake with less turbulence. It helps a little, but the turbo does a good job of pulling air by itself.

The noise I was referring to is the turbine itself. It sounds like gear wine, and is just the turbo spinning slowly. It's some sort of harmonic for that particular rpm.

My Greddy turbo does the howl too, more pronounced when slowing down, but will do it while cruising at low speeds.

Anybody know how to make the suction noise quieter? Just normal driving and I hear the engine sucking in air, any way to just shut it up and only hear the turbo spool? Sounds like I got a damn tidlewave in my engine.

Sounds like you have the exact same sound I do. Have you ever had it checked out?

^I've never had it checked out, just figured that sound came with the turbo kit.

I don't mind the howl, I just want to get rid of the suction noise. Don't get me wrong, I like it when people break their necks when they hear my car accelerating, but it attracts too much attention. Can anything be done?

I simply find the howl annoying.

Maybe Chris Lum who used to work for Greddy can provide some insight?

Hi GPW, no worries on the howling sound. It's completely normal.
