I've never seen any 1st hand accounts or pics of broken cases, just interwebz hearsay.
Edit: I ran across this post, and it makes me feel better about the PPG gears seeing as this user is well over what my power goals would be.

Read his whole experience. Then tell me it's just Internet here say.
imo dont waste your time with the PPG syncro gears, if you want to go PPG by all means go for it but do a dog engagement. For your power level I wouldnt worry about splitting the case. I have done ALOT of research and if I was in the 500-700hp range I would be very comfortable getting a PPG box for my car but in the 700-900 range and 10,000 rpm I am going with a Viper T-56 and having Liberty faceplate the gears to assure reliability to 13,000rpm. The PPG box new with everthing is going to run you $6000-7000(fluid, install, parts). The T56 im doing is going to cost me $3000-4000 but doesnt have the nice OEM bolt in effect the PPG does in the stock trans. As far as the V160 goes F that. Overpriced low reving junk. Expensive rebuilds, expensive to buy, no longer available... so many drawbacks its not worth it unless you have $10,000 to blow on an inferior product apposed to the T56.
Absolutely. I would rate those boxes the best. But alot of them are based on the T56 anyways so once you do the T56 swap its usually much easier to go to a liberty or g-force trans.
