you would definitely want new seals, but otherwise it’s nothing special. i would blame the mechanic more than the motor lol.. it’s a short block remember, not a long block…

All that matters and you can/should do this on a cold motor. Leakdown test and compression test. If they are both excellent it doesn't matter if the engine has 0 or 100k miles. It's that simple when it comes to checking a new motor all it is is an air pump.

how would leakdown/compression tell you about bearing and cylinder wear?

Can't know about bearing wear unless full disassembly unless you can hear rod knock and obviously if the cylinder is worn and letting air escape it'd show up in compression and leakdown results.

lol i guess my question would be... what bearing wear and cylinder wear would be present at 0 miles? doesn't that kinda contradict what you're saying that it doesn't matter if it's 0 or 100k miles?

The cylinders look fine. If it is actually knocking there will be a boat load of bearing material in the oil. Drain the oil and look for copper chunks. The oil will probably look sparkly regardless since it's a brand new build.

DAgle if there is o miles on an engine, why would you be checking for cylinder or bearing wear? Keep it simple dagle

Im talking about what a normal person can do to check an engine. Obviously you have access to special engine shops that can check cylinder wear, piston ring gap, bearing clearances check, oil analysis... Good for you. Make sure to post up and share your knowledge with the rest of us of what else you blow your money on to inspect a 0 mile engine.

This argument is irrelevant to the thread at this point. Other dude does have a point though...

I wish the OP well and hope this clears up from something easy. I do not have faith in that but hope for his sake and everyone else's that it's a non-issue. We will need some reliable engine rebuild resource in/for the future. I thought Inline Pro may be it but this does not bode well.
