Beehives are cheaper and have much better motion control. The spring and retainer are much lighter.

Check the cam cap bolts and VTEC pins.

Like the pins in the rockers or? When I took the head off I picked up the whole assembly as one unit and set it on my bench, and when we put it back on we just picked it back up and set it back down on the head. I seriously have no idea what to look for haha.

Congrats on getting it together again!

There are small pins that are inside the valvetrain, that through oil pressure engage the vtec cam. If you weren't super efficient with removing them, one could have fallen out, which would cause the vtec to not work. Try pulling the valve cover and look for a small pin underneath the rocker arms.

yeah, the pins in the rockers. They have springs and will fly out if you arent careful. Also, if any of the cam cap bolts are loose you'll loose just enough oil pressure to make vtec not work.

rubber band or zip tie all the rockers together and remove them with the cam supports in one piece, learned this the hard way

Seems to actually be working, got on the freeway and did a short rip in 4th and I could hear it. Seems like the lower gears it wasnt as audible. I have to get some help setting the boost controller though cause its hitting boost cut, we never had a chance to really set it after the dyno obviously. With it disconnected it seems to be hitting 13lbs or so, hooks 2nd and that would probably be 400-425hp. Tranny seems to shift nice, little hard to find 5th sometimes and its loud with nothing but a little 20ga tunnel haha.

Really sweet project mang!

I had a 2003 350z that had syncro issues, but after swapping them for the updated ones it ran perfect.

I'm looking for the old thread on my350z.com, but the gears are wider than the v160 (supra turbo) tranny if I remember right.

It seems hit or miss on the 03 transmissions--everyone that I saw blow one was usually flat foot/no clutch shifting drag style and would shear the teeth off the gear in the collar which metal pieces would of course trash everything else. Yet i've also seen some serious torque machines never have a problem with it.

I know Sound Performance has put their stock 350z transmission through hell on their 1200rwph project 350z:

Everything seems to be going good, havent done any really hard 2-3 or 3-4 shifts but its not breaking and I havent been nice to it. Tons of rides, let lots of my friends have driven it and its going good. Love peoples reaction to it after a ride, and took it to Dicks tonight for dinner and had 20+ people come over and give compliments on the setup. Heres a quick 3rd gear pull on wastegate, hitting about 13lbs or so. Still amazed it doesnt light up second, and even spinning some in first it goes straight and gets with it. Need a gopro to get some good video but it sounds so good just driving around.
