OVERHEATING in the desert

I did not say that I have seen stock water pump pulleys break on stock S2000s. This has been fabricated from my original statement. I said I have seen the TSBs from Honda for water pump pulley failures on other Honda engines. These TSBs were issued for brand new cars. I do not blatantly lie. I work with some of the brightest minds in the business and I cannot hide behind my keyboard and be an internet engineering hero. If anybody wants the truth, I welcome anybody to call and talk to me directly for accurate KraftWerks product information and customer service.
The water pump pulley failure is a concern. To say that we are ignoring it is simply false. A failure brings up concern, but we must also analyze the problem and not jump to conclusions. We have hundreds of these KraftWerks kits on the market, and have seen three factory water pump pulley failures. Two of these have used modified belt systems from the original kit, so it is hard to use those as examples.
I can assure our customer base we are looking at the water pump pulley situation and the possible causes, but it is difficult to justify with modified belt systems. But we are looking into it further.
We have reputable tuners and racers across the country/world using our supercharger kits. Church runs a AP1 YouTune kit on his personal car and runs the hell out of it. We have circuit racers in different parts of the country and world running our S2000 systems against Corvettes and Vipers on track, and they have no issues. We have the Twin Rotrex-powered Hondata Bonneville car running at 9500RPM and high engine/system loads. It runs day in and day out, on one belt, with no issues.
If anybody has any questions, feel free to call KraftWerks Customer Service or e-mail us.

I can see UR etched into the pulley, so I'm guessing you aren't making these yourself.
Maybe the kit just needs to ditch the lightweight UR pulley for something with a bit more "beef" to it. There isn't nearly as much metal on that pulley where it's showing stress fractures compared to the stock pulley.
I've started to lean more towards this kit of late because I like the hp and torque rpm band but I'd really like some of these things addressed before I buy.
I don't know what to think about S2oooNvegas's statement that the kit puts too much pressure on the water pump bearings and that they will fail next though. It's a worry, but I haven't heard of anyone water pump failing in that way so I'm not sure if he's right or not.

The Kraftwerks kit retains the factory water pump pulley.
I will pull off my pulley and throughly inspect it withen the next few days. I have alot of miles on my KW kit: which is still the 100% original KW system and now on my 2nd updated tensior pulley.
If my WP pulley shows + or - for sign of cracking we'll know something.
JunTuned were you running an aftermarket WP pulley? Like the UR one DesertWander was running?
I can tell you KW does take these failures seriously. They simply do not jump to conclusions and research these failures. They have my ceramic tensior pulley which failed after 10k miles. You know what? They recently released an update for it which I feel confident will be a great solution to prevent future failures.

Agree, I have this kit on my car over year have over 20k miles on it and have tracked the pisss out of my S2K more the 20x in the winter, spring, and summer. OJR just like anyone who works gets busy. I often wonder how many people have actually talked via phone or email and walked away still confused after talking with the guys at KW.
That picture above is even my stock w/p pulley that has been there since the car was made.
I honestly don't know how much more abuse you can put on this kit other then at the track.
Also just out of curiousity, to person who created this topic, why in the world would you go out and run hard down the freeway against another dude before having everything properly checked out by your mechanic, after your original w/p, and raditor hose issues?

sorry bud, but YOU DID say that. I heard it with my own ears, and my friend did also. I remember being completely taken back by that comment and contimplating asking you "where and who's" pulley you have seen fail. I didnt fabricate ANYTHING in my post, man I try to be sympathetic and not slander your reaction and now you DENY saying this. I will have my friend who was with me post as a witness when he gets off work. people look at the facts, I have been supporting kraftwerks from day 1 and still do. Theres no need to come on and try and impress everyone by saying how many "race" s2000's you have out there racing against corvettes and viper's. You dont need to sell us on the fact that you have an excellent product OJR. We all already know you have one.
There may only be a small percentage of people that experience this failure and how can we sit and speculate the exact causes if it happens on multiple vehicles. No two vehicles are going to be identically set up. The pulley may only break on a small fraction of users, so inspecting yours just to find nothing wrong doesnt mean its still not an issue of concern.
My frustration lies in your constant defensiveness of yourself and lack of consideration for anyone else. A simple apology or maybe a few questions asking about our being stranded overnight would have done wonders. YET, all I get is sudden "WORRY" and self motivated concern that the rest of the community will find out about another failure in the kit. Someone can immediately sense whether a person genuinely feels bad about the situation or simply is worried about their own reputation. If you think my thread was intended to slander your supercharger you are incorrect..
I do not expect a bulletproof kit OJR, such a thing does not exist. There will be failures in anything. Improvements are inevitable, but your overly defensive attitude about how kraftwerks can never be wrong is getting annoying.
What I NEED is advice as to what the possible damage that can occur when exposed to extreme heat.

I agree with you man. My friend who was with me is a mechanic. However I think he was more concerned about getting himself home rather than getting the car looked at. This situation is very frustrating to me and is another entirely different issue. If it was up to me the car would have stayed in san diego and I would have done just as you said. I cant please everyone.
