As a previous comptech owner I'd say lay off the shrooms
I notice when I do shrooms that my handling is affected because of the weight in my stomach lol

maybe some people are more in-tune with their cars than others.

Saying that a blower up top vs a blower down low would not change handling characteristics is just ignorant. You also have to consider the Vortec has an air/water IC vs a lighter air/air system which the KW system uses.

As a whole the KW system is lighter. There is no two ways around that, PLUS is sits much lower in the engine bay. Sure it might not be a huge amount of weight, But one cannot deny the position of that weight in relation to the front wheels affects the balance of the car.

[QUOTE=archtop,Jul 31 2009, 06:51 AM] The tensioner is located between the supercharger pulley and the crank pulley(very close).I don't believe it needs to exert more tension .The supercharger is located to the left of the crank ( passenger side) down low below the crank pulley.Very cool setup, keeps the weight down low and back in line with the engine for a lower center of gravity.I've noticed when I drove Comtech or Vortech cars that all that weight up top and so far forward made the front feel heavy

Its off topic, but id bet just about everything i own, that the KW kit and a comptech kit weigh exactly the same.

Comptech has blower/bracket/aftercooler/heat exchanger/pump.

Kw has Blower/bracket/idler bracket/oil reloc kit/miles of lines/rotrex res/laminova cooler/setraub cooler/FMIC and brackets.

Id bet if each kit was boxed and weighed, its be within 5 lbs. AND the general area is so close for where each setup is mounted in the car, id doubt it offsets the weight balance IF at all, maybe .000015% ...LOL.

Sitting on the left side ruins the balance more.

The point is that the weight of a SC isn't going to change the way your car handles enough to be noticeable, anyone who disagrees is just ignorant.

Whats slow said was correct, they do have a belt on them. However I think it can still be done without the belt. From what ive been told it doesnt have an internal generator/battery, so it relies soley off the car battery yet has its own motor. One would think you could fabricate some brackets and run this compressor without the belt. Im looking into it further, if anything the unit would just draw off the cars battery. Which shouldnt matter if it was only being used when the car was running.

Just speculation though.

The hybrid compressors run on high voltage DC from the IMA battery pack, not the 12V battery. They also require special oil that has different electrical insulating properties than standard refrigerant oil.

It's not worth trying to retrofit when the AC gets turned off by the PCM above 7K anyway.
