Some of you asked for a sound test so we went ahead with testing our prototype Dual 3" Exhaust System.

Even though I have an iPhone, I wasn't too keen on using an iPhone app for the db test so we went out and bought a digital sound level meter from the local Radio Shack. While this unit is not ANSI approved it is still supposed to be accurate to within 1-2 dbs. We may eventually purchase a professional grade meter later on down the road.

Anyhow, on to the testing numbers. These numbers will probably mean little to some without some sort of measuring stick. So I borrowed a new Honda Odyssey from a co-worker. All sound tests were conducted from inside the vehicle with the windows up and A/C off.

At idle the Odyssey measured 62 db. On the highway (flat road) at 60MPH with just enough throttle input to maintain speed, these readings measured 67-68 db. For those who have not been in an Odyssey, it is extremely quite all around.

The AP2 test car with our PTUNING Turbo System and Prototype Dual 3" Exhaust System idled at 67-68 db. Steady state cruising at 60 MPH is 80-81 db and at 70MPH is about 79-80 db.

At 60MPH in 6th gear (3200 rpms) with half throttle, the meter reached 85 db. Keep in mind though that the rate of acceleration even with half throttle application is pretty quick so I'm not too sure what rpm we ended up at.

As for the important cruising-rpm, full engine-decel (in gear, off throttle) the meter still registered an acceptable 82 db.

BTW, to all interested parties, lets thank HMFIC (Allan) for the continuous use of his s2000 for testing.

This will be our last test until the production pieces are ready.

i am extremely impressed. thank you so much for posting up real numbers. for those that are not familiar, those numbers mean his exhaust is quiet! REALLY QUIET. when you are in an s2000 that drones, that last test he did that hit 85 would be around 100+db. to the human ear, thats way louder. WAY LOUDER!

congrats guys, sounds like this is the real deal.

I just read all 17 pages and am VERY impressed! If I didn't already spent the cost of my left lung to my setup. This one would probably be on the top of my list for a complete, well-thought out turbo systems for the S. Thanks for keeping up all informed and answering the questions!

kudos!

I love the quiet duals!

btw, does anyone have an idea what #db the OEM exhaust is?

Any pics of the new motor mount?

Coming from a FR kit owner, I really appreciate the heat shielding and no relocating of components etc....

Very pleasing to the eye (and installer) x 2

Is there an oil thermostat with the oil cooler set up? I would think one would be necessary for a street driven car. Now, how to set that up....

Thanks for the compliments.

We are finalizing the details of our production motor mount and will try and get some pics up soon. There are several components to the mount that we want to finish up before we post any pics.

I know several people are dying to see what it looks like. The best we can do right now is give you a hint.....our billet aluminum motor mount sits below the passenger side subframe.

Jason,

Yes, our optional oil cooler will include a thermostat. Allan's car actually has one on it.

Motor mount below the sub frame; optional oil cooler with thermostat.. No corners but and no stone unturned it seems. I'm extremely impressed.

Toan, I'll be sending you a PM back when I get a chance today.
