Hmm...

So if I baby it to say 4k, then stop on it......I'll get the 6k kick?

But....if I floor it from 1k, I won't get the 6k kick?

vtec engaging sooner on sc will smooth out the bump in power you get from cam change and take advantage of the extra air being forced in IE more power . depending on the tuner, you might feel it, you might not. na, i didnt even feel it kick in at 4800rpm. was super smooth. tomorrow i will let you know how it feels with the SXM blower and vtec at 4800rpm.

I have the Hondata/Toda reflash (high cam on at 4200 rpm) and I still feel that push you're talking about at around 6200-6500 rpm.
This is normal, this is what is called being on the cam, ie; the most efficient torque peak reached on the high cam...
Enjoy it!
Cheers

You'll always be able to feel an increase in power as the engine gets near the big cam torque peak. As for the sudden surge in power you get with VTEC at the factory setting, you only feel that because you're already passed the point where you could have been benefiting from being on the big cam already. The reason the sound is so noticeable at the stock setting is also for that reason.

VTEC is set so high in the S2000 for emissions reasons only. The emissions test that the car has to go through before they're allowed to sell it as a LEV is a lot more rigorous than the one you get at the smog shop, and is the reason that Honda has the VTEC setting where it is. Even in stock configuration, it would be a little faster if VTEC were set lower, but then it would engage during that emissions test and screw the whole thing up.

Ahh, that makes sense.

It was just a bit confusing to me to hear them say VTEC was engaged from 3600 to redline......then I hit 6200, and its as if I hit a nitrous button from 6200-redline.

I was actually expecting that 6200 kick to happen at 3600, which would be a bit weird. Well, back to confusing people at stoplights with high pitched whistling noises...

it will kick in at 3600 but only if you mash the gas. if you feather the throttle vtec will engage at 6000....just like stock the engine will always be on the high cam after 6000rpm
