Agreeing with everyone really but:
Think about a goal and stick to it. Do it right the first time and don't cut corners. That being said, if your goal is stock internals at 6psi or a full race rebuild, spend the right amount of time and money to get you there. The easiest area to save is the labor but you also need to have the right tools (and spare parts lying around that a shop would have) and expertise/fabrication skills if you go that route. Also remember that you need to take in account tuning cost/time
